Rumors
Industry experts "confirm" Sony is working on an all-new handheld console

It has been speculated for a while that Xbox is working on its own handheld games console, but it seems it's not alone – Sony is said to be planning its own Switch/Steam Deck rival, too.

Having successfully tested the waters with the PlayStation Portal, it is claimed that a successor to the PS Vita is in the works.

Bloomberg reported last week that prototypes are already in development and that "people familiar with its development" said it will potentially play PS5-standard games without needing to be connected to a PS5 or cloud gaming service.

Now the renowned games tech testers at Digital Foundry have corroborated Bloomberg's report: "What's interesting about this is that we actually heard about this handheld some months ago from a couple of sources," said John Linneman on the DF Direct podcast.

Are you looking forward to this ? or are you skeptical about the possibility of PS Vita2?
do you think it will be successful? or you are quite sure you(and others) will still prefer the Switch 2?

as an ex-owner of original PS Vita i will be over the moon if this is real

As much as I love the idea that they will return to handheld stuff, I don't know if they would support it
Or better yet, give a reasonable price

Seems like a good moment to strike, with Nintendo pretty much leaving that market up for grabs after committing super heavily to the Switch and its rumored sequel... but I'm not sure they should. I mean, I didn't even know they had made the first one until YEARS after the fact. It had made such a tiny splash on my neck of the woods.

I think neither Sony nor modern AAA video game developers should be trusted to support such project.
Just a reminder that Sony has purged entire JAPAN Studio little over a year ago and gave away of all of their PS5 exclussives to PC without any second-thoughts.

Sony is not intrested in keeping their top talent nor their exclussives; in favour of pandering to the western market. So it is a big enigma as to what said handheld is supposed to offer, which Switch or Steamdeck do not.

I think that is going to be expensive as hell altough It could work (playstation portal sold something). Unless they repeat the SD mistake that they did in the Vita (forcing the player to use an Official Sony 2gb sd)

I just hope that if they did another handheld that they use regular micro SD cards instead of whatever proprietary memory cards they want to foister on customers. The vita's cards were overpriced and were much smaller in memory. Sony forgot that they were competing with cellphone as well as with Nintendo for portable gaming, and having the price of entry being so high definitely hurt them.

With the pc handheld market we have now I don't care about a console from sony/nintendo were everything is locked up.
