Has anyone here had any experience with the Layton games on mobile? I’m kind of tempted to get Curious Village for my iPhone because it’s got a bunch of new content and people are saying it’s the best version of the game.
I’m just cautious because I’m somewhat inexperienced with playing mobile games.
I’m very excited for the new game and wanted to go through some of the classics.

Also, feel free to use this as a Professor Layton general thread!

Seen it before, there's a few difference like
-HD artwork
-extra bonuses like the cutscenes
-mobile format
-collectibles charms
-daily puzzles

Some examples of the game

It really does look good, my main concern is playability. Though since it’s mainly just menuing and the occasional scribbling lines and circles it shouldn’t be TOO cumbersome, right?

Professor Layton games already use touch as their control scheme. I don't think being on mobile hurts them much.

It shouldn't be too difficult since it's pretty easy to control even in NDS
Thanks. I think I might have notoriously bad coordination when it comes to phone touch controls, but it is as you say, since it was designed for styluses it should be easy.

Put simply: Yes, buy them, they're very good. None of the Layton games used physical controls, so they work extremely well on mobile phone screens. (Later Layton games actually started coming out on phones way before they did on the 3DS.) I'm not sure if all the games are available – last I checked, it was just the first three + the Katrielle spin-off games – but the ones that you can buy are certainly the ideal versions. I have Diabolical Box, and it works perfectly and looks gorgeous (especially if you play it on an iPad or something). Highly recommended from me!

Well, the Katrielle games aren't, because they're shit, HD or not. BUT THE ORIGINALS ARE GOOD!!!!!!!! Layton is one of the best adventure/puzzle games ever (it's really more of a series of puzzles with a loose point-and-click framework wrapped around 'em), and the series is quite unlike anything else. I think that all the games are at least of some quality. The movie is also quite good, too – if you're iffy about the franchise, you can certainly watch that first without issue.

I've played Curious Village in full on mobile android with Retroarch MelonDS core. There's a NDS-color shader for color correction in /slang/handeld to compensate for the oversaturated yellows and give the game its original pastel. Great game.

Puzzle Agent
These are good, too! They're more of a PC series and very clearly """"inspired"""" by Layton, but I do quite like the art style and writing. The puzzles aren't quite up to the Layton standard, but if you're looking for more adventure/puzzle gameplay, I'd certainly give 'em a crack. They always go on sale for like $0.89 on Steam, and at that price you can't afford not to pick them up!!!!!!!

Man this game has like the best theme song ever made.
Wouldn't have expected less from the composer of the Dark Cloud games.
And the character designs are just immaculate!

Me waiting eight years for the Layton games to come out on switch.
"It'll happen... eventually."
Seriously, though, why couldn't Nintendo put them on Switch? We still have Switch 2 coming out, logistically, with how New World of Steam is coming out, they could make ports of the rest of them.

They
I agree with you, but I'm pretty sure Nintendo doesn't own Layton. Last I checked Level 5 held all the rights for it.
They do, but level 5 owes pretty much everything to Nintendo because of how their entire empire was built off of them. Only Nintendo has had Layton games released for it.

I guess that's true, yeah.
In my mind they're a Playstation company first because I grew up with Dark Cloud and Dragon Quest 8, and then played White Knight Chronicles and Ni No Kuni on my PS3.

i've only ever played the crossover game. it was good.
Which one? There is only one good one as far as I'm concerned.

That's fair. I am a 3ds kid myself.

Great games in my opinion.
I got tired of the formula a bit after the 4 game but is fun, good soundtrack, and very charming visuals.

Also, fucking Luke.

I actually only really like the first four, too. The 3DS ones weren't very good, I felt – too much running around on the overworld, and putting all the puzzles on the top screen kind of changed how the game was played. I'm sure I've said this before, but I think the Ace Attorney crossover is pants, as well.

I'm an actual dumbass.
This stupid ancient wolf/chicken/raft puzzle is leaving me stumped.

I've never liked this problem, ever.

i've heard of another puzzle like this. i think that one was about a wolf, chicken and some plant seeds. you'd take the chicken over first then the wolf and then take the chicken back and keep swapping until all three were over on the other side.
you might have to try something like that; if the game lets you.
