Possibly a strange occurrence in Super Mario 64? Any explanations?

This might sound like some shitty creepypasta or a hoax but I'm actually serious about this

Earlier this morning 6/16/2025, I was playing Super Mario 64, everything I use to play it is official hardware aside from the cartridge in second slot.

Anyways, I was messing around in the second floor of Peach's castle and paused to check the time on my phone. After checking my phone I saw a boo floating, it was like the game wasn't even paused, then it vanished through the wall next to the painting. Kinda creepy stuff.

It could just be me being tired and mistaking the painted cloud as a boo but is it possible for a boo to make it out of the basement???

I know people are joking but this is serious. There is a ghost, or rather a "phantasm". These creatures like to possess inanimate objects, typically things that can move like carts or carriages in old times. With the advent of technology they've began to possess electronics, and since we're on our phones/computers all the day they've taken a stronger liking to these older cartridges or videogames.
In short, your game is evil. It will take over your life. Seriously hire an exorcist or something, I can offer you my expertise at this stuff for a low price of about $499.99. It'll be quick, in and out job, I'll have the phantasm gone in no time.

The real strange thing is using a flat panel LCD screen to play N64 games. Thats the real horror
I used to use a TruFlat RCA CRT from 2005 to play retro games but there is a loud ringing sound my bf can apparently hear so I just switched it out with this, at least it still looks better than the bloated blurry mess a modern flat screen would do!

Loud ringing noise? Probably the stereo speakers were going out? OR are you referring the white noise it plays?

I have a feeling it has to do with the white noise since the speakers sound perfectly fine, he is a lot more sensitive to it than anyone else I've met. Glad I still have it though

Sweet RCA. That white noise tends to go away after a while. I'm assuming, he hasn't used or been next to a CRT in a while for it to be a bother. Good on you for keeping it with you all this time.

Yeah he isn't quite used to the sound but I'm hoping to find a way to reduce the white noise so we can go back to using it

Best option is to brute force it but maybe wear some earmuffs might do the trick. idk, he might have sensitive ears; could be useful in making music tbh

CRTs emit a high pitched whining sound when they're turned on. You could always tell when the tv was on just by walking into a room even with the volume muted.

He probably does have sensitive ears considering he had a lot of ear surgeries in his childhood. I'm hoping to get my hands on a less noisy CRT at some point that is a lot easier to take around

I wouldn't get my hopes up too much since the sound is very much typical for crts and them getting older sure does not make them any quieter. You getting older funnily enough does make the sound quieter lol.
I attached some background noise for people to enjoy.

Once I accidentally left my N64 running for three days straight and when I came back Mario was eating spaghetti. But when I grabbed my kodak camera to take a photo he was already back into the idle animation.

Happened to my buddy Eric.

you most likely were tired. i sometimes think i see something out of the corner of my eye when i get tired. there's usually nothing there. i'd say to get some sleep as soon as possible the next time that this happens. you shouldn't push yourself too hard; especially when playing a platforming game. you need sharp reflexes to play those, and jumping at ghosts is not going to help you out in any way.
