Pokémon hack recommendations

Do you know any hacks which focus on save file compatibility?

I mean, in a way you could safely get a save from original title and load it with romhack, and vice versa. I guess that it could be limited to QoL, bugfixes, repaints or embedded cheats, but anyway. I wonder if something like that is well known.

My big idea: I would like to try various hacks, but want to keep my progress and don’t start playing the same game over and over again.

Emerald Rogue is pretty fantastic if you are into roguelikes. It's kind of completely changed the way I play pokemon.
If we talk about roguelikes, a recommend Pokemon The Pit. That mod has three versions that allows you to choose what generations of pokemon you like to have in game.

I really do recommend Black Moon 2.

It effortlessly and seamlessly incorporates Alola into Unova.

Dang holy. I wasn’t expecting this to get bumped.

That’s a novel idea, yeah. And it would definitely be useful.
In gta on ps2, this is usually not possible due main.csm altering your saves, which is based on BASIC.

Heh, really cool! Especially since I’ve heard bad stuff about gen 7 so it’s nice to play it with different assets.

Though in the past, my main gripe was lacking a reliable way to play 3ds games, which isn’t the case anymore thanks to my RG slide. :)

I'm glad you got that sorted out, but I couldn't help but recommending it ^^!

super pokemon eevee edition
This. Is. Awesome. Really, the game is very good. TBH, I have played only few Square JRPGs and tried couple of Pokemon hacks, and this cute fangame encourages me to expore more.
Story is 10/10, actually funny jokes and some easter eggs. Side quests are interesting too.
My favourite thing was refinery system - crafting advanced items from basic stuff.

I was not able to do 100% compleation because:
- cannot beat battle arena, last floors are too brutal, if you got unlucky, and I went out of HP/PP and stock items
- on last Oak errand it has item on inaccessible tile, or I was not able to figure out how to obtain it
- didn’t complete pokedex, there’s also some quest about legendary beasts and monks, I was totally lost what it was about

Overall, I highly recommend it.

it's been a while since i play super pokemon eevee. now i want to replay it. i love the limbo(?) area. i don't think you can complete the dex, because the game have 2 different version. i think it's random which version you get.

For me it would probably be pokemon reborn. but be warned it can be very challenging and you have to play by it's rules.

If you don't want the moves or types changed too much, all you want is a simple definitive Gen 1 Experience with just some QOL and full Dex, nab this one, currently en route to Erika's Gym, they even kept the Mew Glitch so you can send God to kill a Magikarp with Hyper beam!!!

so I grabbed PureRGB, Perfect Crystal, Perfect Emerald and Platinum Renegade, I never really played past Emerald growing up so I am wondering what other ones would be good for me, I keep seeing Unbound but I am trying to go by generations.

You should consider the Legacy hacks for Yellow, Crystal, and Emerald by Smithplays.
They're probably the most polished and well thought out "Definitive edition"/QoL hacks for these games.

For a full overhaul, i would reccomend Star Beasts, it feels like one of those knockoff games, official or bootlegs, of the formula, but well done, you WILL need the PDF to grasp the term changes, but otherwise it is fun and it feels like what would Pokemon would look like in another timeline

I'm hankering for a 3DS romhack, any suggestions on the best one of the few that are out there?

I recently went thru Renegade Platinum on DS and I highly recommend that one.
