Read Real by Takehiko Inoue. My favourite manga of all time. I know it looks like a sports manga, and it kinda is, but the sport is very much taking a back seat in this one. Just trust me.
Also check out Usogui, great stuff, just bare with the art for a bit, it gets significantly better. It's honestly great watching the mangaka grow like that.

Yes, the very same. Slam Dunk is easily in my top 10. Real is my number 1. It's a once in a lifetime experience. The most beautiful manga I've ever read. Of course for me its a bit more personal, I read it during a very difficult time in my life, it made me realise just how beautiful humanity and life is all over again. Real can only be described as love, an embrace, a warm feeling. Just read it and you'll see what I mean.
I'd say watch this, I watched it. Its undeniable peak. The manga is longer than One Piece so it throws people off. But the anime is just as good in my opinion.

Seriously tho, as a kid that grew with it in Animax, i can suggest Samurai X/Rurouni Kenshin, for a quick resume:
Our MC is the titular samurai, Kenshin himura, a expert assasin who happens to want nothing to do with murder, so he used his crafting skills to create a sword that doesn't kill and swore to not kill anymore, however he has to fend enemies that he accumulated in the past
while still having the cool fights you expect of a shonen, it also has some navel-gazing about dealing with a changing world
