I've given out a lot of recommendations when it comes to Playstation and Playstation 2 games. though, I'm interested in a genre that I don't really see gets a whole lot of love or many mentions often, including from myself, which I feel I've been neglecting in spite of my passing interest in it as a whole. I think a big reason why is because the visual novel has been well known to be associated with mostly the romance genre. It's not a genre I'm against entirely, though it seems a bit oversaturated with that. But are there any PlayStation exclusive visual novels that you'd know of regardless of the console generation that you'd know about that really refreshes the genre or changes it up being more than just a romance?

All PlayStation platforms and language barriers are also welcome!

Also if there's a very interesting takes or hidden gems on the romance genre within this I would like to know. I will never mind a good love story. Honestly any story that deeply touches your heart or has a different take on the genre is what I'm looking for.

But what I'm most interested in is: Horror, Mystery, and Comedy within the genre as a whole. I don't mind any rating, and no topic matter is too much for me. Thanks in advance!

::thank-you

Air, Ever17, Corpse Party, an English patched Haruhi VN, and Kanon are all on PSP
I never realized Corpse Party was on the PSP. I'm a huge sucker for RPG Maker horror, and I know that Corpse Party has always had a strong sense of storytelling. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah, both the original game and a sequel that wasn't very good I've heard (Book of Shadows)

I second Corpse Party, it's a great horror game that dates back to the PC-98 era. Was designed originally on RPG Maker 2 for PC-98
Honestly, I'm just surprised I overlooked it. I've had a hard time finding a Corpse Party game I couldn't enjoy something out of. From what I remember, and correct me if I'm wrong, the game won second place in a game making competition and the fact that is still this strong and recognized is always great to see.

I'll be sure to keep that in mind. I'm sure I've heard of Book of Shadows before? Was it that one where you've got that chibi 3D art style? Because if so, I think I remember that I wanted to avoid that one of the series lol, thank you so much for the warning. I think I'll have to look into the PSP more. Thanks so much for the other suggestions too. I don't believe I've heard of any of them. Hopefully I won't struggle too much if there's language barriers.

On ps Vita there's Bad apple wars, is pretty decent and is a Vita exclusive.
Thanks so much for the suggestion. I'm a sucker for exclusives especially!

The ones I listed were all patched, except Kanon, I'm now just recognising.
Clannad was also English patched for PSP, I forgot to mention
There's also Amagami, which has a few different routes that were English patched.
Also Disgaea Infinite. Surprise you that a strategy RPG franchise has a visual novel?

No, I just didn't realize that Corpse Party had a visual novel. I think I've heard of Disgaea before and liked the designs for it. I'm not surprised that a strategy RPG franchise has a visual novel. I'm surprised that something that started off as an RPG Maker Horror game that won second place in a game's competition that grew into the franchise that it is today had a visual novel. Mostly because I really like that stuff.

Here's an example that I'm sure someone may not know:

Did you know there's a Silent Hill, the survivial horror series had a visual novel for the GBA?
And yes, it is English patched! Consider it a off topic gem lol
But would you expect something like Silent Hill, a survival horror game to have a visual novel? I would probably assume no. And if you were surprised learning that, or even if one was, I hope one could at least understand where I was coming from. Especially considering that these Corpse Party entries are on PSP.

Also as for Disgaea Infinite, I'm pretty sure I've seen some designs for the characters in the franchise before. So no, I'm not shocked that a tactics RPG/strategy RPG would have a visual novel. Fire Emblem is one of Nintendo's top franchises after all. And that's basically the two genres in one game if I'm not mistaken! :loldog

I hope I clarified and cleared up any confusion. Apologies if my English isn't the best.

Always wanted to get into Silent Hill, but PS2 games are SO. BIG. I will be looking into this one.
Haven't gotten to play the visual novel, but it was definitely one of those oddities I never ever expected to learn about hehe. I really hope you enjoy. I just remember it being a lot more effort than it needed to be even for something like this. The visuals are really good too. I hope that at the very minimum, the opening FMV is enough a treat for you for all the stuff you suggested. And really appreciate the Bad Apple recommendation. Honestly, thanks for all that's suggested. I'm very sure I'll have some fun learning about some more good ones.

Also what little I have played of both, the novel is pretty faithful to the story from what I remember.
