What do you guys think of the combat? it's clunky and slow to me, plus the enemies block alot, don't get me started on the chase sequences. but the story is pretty damn good

I still prefer the PS2 Yakuza 2's combat, but Yakuza 3 is fine. The PC version of the game introduces some quirks that weren't in the PS3 version due to the increase framerate (which affects things like severely reducing quickstep's distance and messing with mini-games' physics, like with pool and bowling), so I recommend playing at 30 fps if playing on PC.

I like it just like other Yakuze series.
Maybe it's just me but the combat ain't bad, if you can figure out how the cpu works you can exploit it to your advantage.
I'll try my best to explain with words, the cpu reacts when it feels like you have put a few hits in and they still have enough frames to put up a guard, simple as that. The problem is, Kiryu's basic square strings doesn't have any property to daze/stun/guard break your opponent + the enemy's guard automatically tracks to your position, thus you're usually denied a combo after just 2 hits in.
There are some solutions here:
1. Pace your strings, lock your opponent by timing your first 2 square hit and do not continue to the 3rd string or heavy attack. In my experience it usually throws them off guard after you do this 3 times, for some bosses that likes to sidestep and counter, they'd do that instead.
2. Get behind them, put 1 hit in, step to the side, another 1 hit in, step to the side again, repeat until you get to their backs then pounce away. The guard tracking means hitting them from the sides won't work, gotta get to the back. If you like to do this one then you need to practice your dodge timing as well, once you unlock the Daruma roll technique, spamming dodge button will make you roll instead.
3. Bosses CAN be grappled here, seriously, although they usually won't do nothing for the first or second grab, they usually break it off afterwards, use it as an emergency tool.

The combat gets better and youll be pulling wacky attacks by the end of the game. Its only slow at the beginning.
Yeah, I'm getting the hang of it, I just wish the bosses wouldnt block so much, its even more irritating when they're ungrabbable.

Don't worry you'll get used to it. like the reply above said, the game starts out slow but its one of the best.. its one of those games where you miss it when you finish it 😭
nevermind, coliseum gonna make me kill myself.

Seriously. Give me somewhere easy to find it. I literally just wanna mod my broken shotgun. And no, if you're gonna ask me to grind through fights you're stupid.

Hard to explain, but I'd say it's the worst of the pre-2015 games. The combat "progression" feels slow and I definitely didn't enjoy the chase bits. That being said, it's still good, which is a credit to how great the Yakuza franchise is.

Yakuza 3 is what got my in to the series and I love it sure the combat is less stellar to newer games but honestly I love it for the story and the side things you can do not for the combat honestly Like a dragon Switched to a RPG ish game and still love it becuse it´s the same type of story I love with all the other games.

if it didnt take as long to get the groundpound upgrade and faster combo upgrade, it'd be solid tbh.

Yakuza 3 was my first, so for me its great!

but going backwards with zero and then later the remasters for 1 and 2, I can see where combat is clunky and progression is slow. I always wanna play the games, but have to remember to not play them back to back - or burn out happens.

once I upgraded my combo speed, it became really easy
