Heyaa, me name is Ethy and i would like to explain the moment where Plants vs Zombies decided to become a shooter game.
So the first game to start this branch is Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare. Its a third person shooter with the zombie side consisting of four main characters and their own subclasses, and the exact same thing goes for the plant side. There are various modes such as "Gardens & Graveyard" which is where Zombies attack Gardens and take it over with numbers. Think of it like this, there is an area that needs capturing and there has to be more zombies than plants for that area to be captured (hence becoming a "Graveyard") and upon completion, another Garden becomes the objective. Another mode being "Capture the Taco" which is the same thing as a CTF (Capture The Flag) system, plants defend tacos and zombies try to bring them to under a UFO. There are also modes such as Team Vanquish (which is the same as a Team Deathmatch), Vanquish Confirmed (same thing as playing with Dog Tags, where plants and zombies drop orbs upon dying and you obtain the orbs to win), Gnome Bomb (three Gardens and Graveyards each, you plant a bomb on all three or wait the time out in order to win). There is also the option to play Garden Ops, in which you defend a Garden for 10 rounds, having a boss round on the fifth and tenth rounds.
PvZGW while being a game that gives me great nostalgia has its own flaws. The lobbies are empty on other modes besides Gardens & Graveyards, the scheme is slightly more "darker" than the other games (not dark like scary but its less cartoonish which i do not count as a flaw but on the two other games they made them wayy more cartoony) and lastly you cannot play it offline, making it locked at multiplayer sadly (besides the option of playing Garden Ops, while it is very hard to play alone).
After the release of PvZGW, another game was released as a direct sequel, titled Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2 with way more content and options. Some changes are the game's atmosphere getting more fun and whimsical when compared to GW, making it more cartoonish as i mentioned before. The biggest change being though the addition of singleplayer options (which was my go to as my parents never bought Playstation Plus which is required to play online).
Upon launching the game, you are greeted onto a "Backyard Battleground", with zombies having a base on one side and plants on the other. In addition, there is lots of content to explore on GW2's Backyard, including pizza and burger delivery missions, a town hall which (used to include community missions which were really fun but have been since removed from the game) has a portal that has a special game mode featured every two weeks through tuesday to sunday i think, gnome and snowglobe hunting missions and plant (as well as zombie) story line missions which are childish and fun. The other main difference this game had from GW was it now wasnt only plants defending. Added gamemodes included "Herbal Assault", which was the same as "Gardens & Graveyards" but it was Zombies who were defending, as opposed to plants on the previous game.
PvZGW2 was my ENTIRE childhood. it still is a fun game, i launch it sometimes. The only part of it that is unfortunate is the fact that there is NO dev left on the team besides only one. There have been made attempts to revive the game's audience (which has worked slightly) but not enough to bring back its before glorious times. Certainly a favourite game in my book.
There has been made a third game, which while isnt a direct third game connected to the rest with it being stripped of the title "Garden Warfare" and being named "Battle for Neighbourville". I have bought the game yet i havent played it for now so i cannot comment on that.
To sum up everything i have said, if you are a fan of childish and goofy games, i suggest you buy PvZGW2, which has lots of replayability and missions, as well as easter eggs and secrets. Wayy more playing it than PvZGW as well. Thank you for reading.
