Hello good people, I have a weird case on my hands and I can't figure out what's going on, every bit of help will be appreciated.

So, I bought a used and modded PS2 Slim couple of days ago. I started downloading my favorite childhood games on my USB stick and started gaming through OPL.
My problem started with PES 2009. On my first launch the controller was going crazy and during a language selection it was jumping around, like not stopping and moving down non-stop. I managed to get in a match, but it didn't stop and it was unplayable. I tried switching controllers (I have two OG DualShock 2's and one aftermarket wireless, none of them work) I also tried to play PES 5 and 11. What's weird is that after re-launching PES games couple of times, the game literally didn't register controllers anymore, even on language selection. Well my first thought was that my controllers died but I play NFS games (Underground 2 and Most Wanted) literally without a single problem with every controller I own.

Bonus question: Since FAT32 can't hold a single file bigger than 4 GB, can I move to HDD or will it be the same scenario? I can't download FIFA and Tekken because they are bigger than 4 gigs.
Thanks a lot.

  1. Sounds like an issue with the game. Is the game somehow modified? Some games are problematic and/or won't work over USB specifically
  2. EXFat can do larger files. You may need to switch to using a drive or PC over an ethernet connection. There's a nifty tool for use with a USB drive and raspberry Pi.
  3. NGL, these are questions probably better answered over at PSXPlace

Not that I know about, I downloaded every game from RGT. I'll head over to the PSXPlace, thanks for the answer. I'll keep the post here as well, maybe someone knows what's up with PES games.

For sure, dude. Good luck.
Lemme know how it goes.

So, I had this problem with an unmodified console on Godzilla: Save the Earth. Only that game. It’s led me to believe that some PS2 games can be picky about what they consider a connection with the controller… for some reason. It’s hardly a technical explanation, but may be the root of the issue?

I can't seem to find a registration URL or button on PSX forum, did they disable it or am I daft lol?

That's so weird, definitely gotta be a problem with OPL and a game title or something.
