Whom with her eggpla...err, Baku sidekick called Baku (5+ Creativity) escapes with a mysterious key that we know is evil because is black and creepy looking for Sanrio Standars, My melody has a lot of virtues, but a hindering flaw: SHE IS SO CLUELESS, so she believes that Kuromi is her friend, oblivious of she being rotten, again, for Sanrio Standars, so Kuromi decides to exploit that to allow herself and Baku to escape through a Trombone in the sky (Is a whismical dream-land, bear with me) to where the dreams are generated: Real World
My Melody is arrested because the royality believes My Melody deliberately helped Kuromi's escape while explaining the deal of the Key
CHARACTERS: SUGAR AND SPICE
As mentioned, we have My Melody, our heroine, pure, kind, helpful...also kind of a klutz as mentioned, she is granted the counterpart of the Melody Key: The Melody Takt, the titular Onegai (Please in Japanese) is chanalized cia a sticker that puts a Geass or something in objects allowing them to save the day via saying the phrase "Pretty Please?" what basically works with the objects as saying "Would you Kindly?"
Kuromi: THE BEST OF THE...*coughs* Our evil "Rival", as mentioned, her goal is to get 100 Nightmare Notes, with that she means searching someone without problems, offer a easy situation and use the key to offer it in a twisted way
Baku: not an eggplant, the typical dumb sidekick with bad luck, actually at times the only working neuron of the duo
HUMANS
Uta Yumeno: My Melody's human companion, typical teenage of this animes that have crushes and school problems, lives with two sisters and her dad, since her mom died of Backstoriosis
Miki Sakurazuka: One of Uta's Classmate and friend, a poem writer
Mana Fujisaki: Tomboy that works as the muscle of the team, uh oh, also has a legit fear of cute stuff, sorry ladette, you got to be in this anime
Keichii Hiracchi: The "Cold but hot" big man of this anime, aphatetic to his violin skills due to being unchallenged, Kuromi decides to use him to power the Melody Key
PLOT LOOP: And Something Nice
Overall, typical of the genre
"Oh no, i can't do math" "Its okay, i, Kuromi, will make you a Math genius" "Thanks" "Fool, now you are a sentient calculator that forces everyone to be mathematicians" "OH NO" "MELODY TAKT *Creates a superhero out of pencils* Pencil man, beat this calculator man, Would you Kindly?" "Woah, what a weird dream, i want to learn math by myself" with the lesson learned, the troubled person generates one of the pink notes, althroug due to plot sometimes black notes are actually generated, some of them has consecuences to the overall characters and their development rather than Status Quoifing them, but also the one shot randy's conflict can even hit home and make them as memorable
Characterization:
The characters feel real unique and recognizable, and some of them even get more complex, for example Kuromi herself
The show presents her as merely a spiteful girl, wanting to summon a LITERAL LOVECRAFTIAN ENTITY TO KILL MYMELO out of spite, however, as we see in some flashbacks, we see that she got it rough, with My Melo being the final straw of the conflict, oh, and she got sent to a dungeon...as a teen...this got Seinen fast
Baku as mentioned is more complex than your typical dumb sidekick, sowing his bad luck has destroyed his enthusiasm, feeling miserable with a chaotic family made him seek for Kuromi, they seem to dislike each other, but as many scenes show, they may as well be a couple due to how much they care for each other
And yup, this paragraph is only on the antagonists
Uta is shown as lonely without her mom, with her dad being absent most of the time due to job not being exactly help, some of the nighmarized villians aren't exaclty peachy lived ones, one has a faliling vegetable store for example or other that is a singer with a falling with his manager, that also is his only firend, deep into all the sudden darkness the show never drops its optimism, not in a creepy way, but in a "Yeah, life will never be 100% happy, but we still have a bright tommorow, so let's keep going" way
And now, the main dish...KUROMI MY BELOVED
Literally created for the show, her combination of memorable personality, deep and her design being a nice foil to My Melo's sweetness brings necessary conflict to what otherwise would be a Kinder Show of the bunch, her perkiness makes the memorable parts of the anime, especially the Kuromi Note, aka the notebook where she writes all the times Mymelo "wronged her", alas, some of them are merely bad luck and the rest is Kuromi being legitimally oblivious, also her relationship with baku is easly the cutest next to Uta and My Melody (Totally not a bias due to my species ;) ), her songs deserves to be on Spotify too, easy my fav of Sanrio's lineup
Conclusion:
With some flaws like MC's not feeling devloped, My Melody reaching gratiness on the kewt department and plots that even without Kuromi they would be solved if people *Deep Breath* TALKED aside, the show is pretty good on the "Smol creature solves issues" genre of anime, boasting two seasons of 52 episodes each, the Spirit of Dark Power being a legit menace in it's bare appareance with season 2's finale making me believe we weren't getting a happy ending this time, if you got a burnout of edgy shonen, you may find some confort, alas, there is only a subbing and a rare to find spain spanish dub, and no, there weren't two more seasons after Kuru Kuru Shuffle, they are a hoax, but if you find it, be sure to give it a shot...
