So I recently learned of this aesthetic called "Older Brother Core". I kind of resonate with it even though I'm the younger brother. I guess this is what older kids looked like to me when I was little and I wanted to be a part of it. It seems so fun and carefree. I suppose I do kind of live like this now, but I don't have a gaggle of idiots like me irl to share it with, apart from one neighbor I sometimes play LAN games with.
not quite on topic, but there's a unique set of abilities in disgaea six that use older and younger sibling relationships for power boosts. by default, only actual siblings get them, but you can get copies to give to other characters and get easily a good 50% or more power boost to your entire team.
I'm from the rural US south, so that sort of fashion wasn't as common. I'd see the shirts sometimes, but not the spiked wristbands. Country, hip hop, and R&B and their related aesthetics are more popular around here. But I always thought the stereotypical teenage older brother look was appealing and I would catch glimpses of them through friends of relatives: cheap beer, energy drinks, messy rooms, doing dumb shit with firearms, tools, and ATVs in the backyard.

I hear you. I was from St. Louis that had a strong Hip-Hop culture and aesthetic, so me and my friends stood out and got a lot of stares, but teenage me liked freaking people out. I used to go the whole nine yards, pants with enough belts to make Nomura blush, spiky gloves/wristbands, black fingernail paint etc. We'd get stopped by the cops sometimes, thinking we were up to no good.

Never played Disgaea before, but I heard they're long and grindy as fuck. If I only have time to play one or two of those games, where do I start?
i would say, personally, 3 and 5. three is over the top with the characters and motivations, 5 has a bat shit insane amount of content in it.
1 and 2 are a bit rough, but everyone usually agrees that the characters are the best part, the interactions are quite good.
3 and 4 refine the gameplay, smoothing out rough edges. D2 is also like this, but the story is kind of all over the place with no real end goal.
5 can be a bit repetitive, especially with the main character, killia; but the sheer amount of mechanics, classes, characters and customization makes up for that by a 1,000,000%.
6 is the grindiest, with the smallest amount of content; but characters can have stats in the trillions, hp in the quintillions, and money even higher than that. the story is good and you actually get a prism ranger on your team for the first time and not as a bonus character.
7 goes back more to 2 in terms of story and characters. the plots twists were good [i saw one coming from chapter 2, i think it was] and has a rather unique take on the multiplayer mode. your characters can also get a godzilla mode power up, so there's that too.

as for the grinding thing, yeah, but 6 is so far the most ridiculous. it gets easier as you progress, and each game has a handful of maps that help make it a bit easier, along with clubs and squads to help more characters get exp, skills and other stuff up and running to make them more viable. same applies to weapons and armor. a few of the games allow you to duplicate gear to give to characters to make powering up a bit quicker too.

I would have loved to do stuff like that, but I was too helicoptered growing up. Even when we moved into the city limits, I didn't really get to wander about on my own as a teenager very often.
In my area it's called Punk Style or something, this does resemble my older cousin room back in the day. I'm the younger bro too and I got lots of hand-me-down from my sister so my room is just a little bit neat compared to other boys in general.

This makes me wonder how my 4 siblings view me. My oldest sister would be the only one who could answer that meaningfully right now though. And I know my oldest brother idolizes me, which I'm opposed to lol. I gotta ask the younger ones when they get a bit older.
It’s no dumber than dockers and Apple watches. Dress codes are for jobs. Aesthetics are for fun and flavor. As an older sibling who still paints their nails and pokes thumb-holes in long-sleeves, I respect a goofy style.

Is this "Older Brother Core", or "The Mid 2000s Teenage and Young Adult Experience"? Family Guy, Xbox Live, Guitar Hero - that just seems like the stuff that was popular at the time. I was into Guitar Hero and all the heavier music too, I just didn't dress like one of the various music fan archetypes. Hmm, I'm not sure if that's how my brother viewed me back then, he's 7 years younger than me. When we were young, he wanted to hang out with me, and I just wanted to play RPGs in my room by myself, so he'd sit on the ground in front of my door and bug me or pound on the door until I let him in.
I'm sure it's not just you, although I don't think I've ever purchased anything from a Spencer's. It's a usual stop when window shopping at the mall though, then again so is Hot Topic and Gamestop.
