I watched the 1992 version by Gary Sinise a while back and I remember liking the movie.
So I said, let's watch the old one, the one that came out only 2 years after the book, the one Steinbeck gave his blessings to.
OH-MY-GOD.
This is the saddest thing I've seen in my life! I cried like a baby goddamn this scene is so cruel.

If you hate yourself go ahead and watch it. It's great book 100~ pages and a great movie.

Read the book like 10-ish times well in high school, has some interesting themes. But cant remember much of it, will give the movie a watch sometime as a refresher.

This was the version we watched in high school after we read the book. To me it has more impact then the Sinise remake. The Black and White tone to me just hit more in the emotional scenes.

I read and watched the film as well. Very sad.
Have you seen Grave of the Fireflies?

Its a classic of American Literature.
