So, basically, earlier this year, a rock band named "President" was making the rounds through cryptic marketing and a "President Mask" gimmick. They were making the rounds with their effective advertising, and a couple of days ago, they finally released their first song. And man, it SUCKS. It turns out that President are an "Octane-Core" band: a subgenre of rock/metal that is solely made to gain as much radio play and push as many copies as humanly possible.

Octane-Core, as the name suggests, is a divergent strain of Metalcore, itself a subgenre of rock that flirts with heavy metal tropes. And with Octane-Core, all of the metal elements have been buried knee-deep in layer upon layer of over-produced, electronic noise that ultimately makes the song utterly homogenous and forgettable.

It goes without saying, but I hate Octane-Core with every fibre of my being. It is a corporate, soulless plague on music that has caused the rock genre to stagnate and lose popularity due to it being the only thing radios seem to play. Pure butt-rock for people who are scared of actual Metalcore and/or edgy losers on Twitter and Reddit. It's honestly one of the worst things ever in music, and the fact it's getting all the attention over artists that deserve it is utterly horrific to me.

But that's just me. What are your thoughts on Octane-Core and the bands who make it (I.E. President, Bad Omens, Falling In Reverse, etc.)?

This isn't exclusive to rock sadly, it's literally been the theme for all genres. Make as much "corpo crap" music as possible.
Commercial music is 99% trash and has been for decades now.

I can't offer any thoughts since I've never heard of this genre before but I would've thought that music labeled 'octane' would be all about speed and intensity. Judging by your description I'm guessing that's not the case.

Ayup. The name "Octane-Core" is a nod to the radio stations that play this slop 24/7, most specifically the American channel "Octane" by SiriusXM.

I can only say my expectation for music almost ruined due to shift in their preference compared to what I care to listen to. After decades of listening to the same songs over and over again you find yourself in a state you cannot listen anything you once loved before. I still love the songs but I don't wanna hear them ever again. Lots of countless hours to find decent songs to listen to all went into oblivion for me.

So one day I decided to write my own lyrics and use AI services to create my own songs and they surprisingly produce way more listenable songs new generation musical artists release that they probably use AI anyway. While I don't try to diminish the real work of art, I still don't think AI generated contest can be art, I still have to desperately accept the fact that to make myself listen to different but fun songs I have no choice but to use AIs lol.

After decades of listening to the same songs over and over again you find yourself in a state you cannot listen anything you once loved before. I still love the songs but I don't wanna hear them ever again. Lots of countless hours to find decent songs to listen to all went into oblivion for me.

So one day I decided to write my own lyrics and use AI services to create my own songs and they surprisingly produce way more listenable songs new generation musical artists release that they probably use AI anyway. I think the point I made was lost in translation lol.

What I meant is simply every musical genre became something like octane-core, as in butchering the genres to produce most generic "radio-friendly" musics so everyone can listen to so it created sub-sub genres of main genres akin to octane-core and then they merged every sub-genre into one to produce one pop genre that can satisfy everyone but it's so generic. As a result even country music seems like 2000's boys songs with weird sense of cartoonish feel and teenage BS. I hope we are on the same page now. You don't have to agree but at least try to comprehend my point or not.

So your complaint is because of the new generation sense of what happened to the musical industry. You either don't seem to be aware of it or you think what you think is not so major problem of the industry. In that context I make fun of the industry and said "me writing my own lyrics and AI generating musics instead of expecting decent musics to listen to" is a better use of my time especially because "they probably AI generate their music anyway". Does people make fun of things they love? If you do you don't really love it.

Hmm sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. In my experience you don't have to bother much to waste your time keep refreshing the music it generates. There are many free ones can be found on Google that all have their own strengths without significant weaknesses.

For example the AI generated music that I fully wrote the lyrics just the lols for it lmao. It turned out to be better than I would expect:

I can sing but I'm not good. I can produce music but I wouldn't wanna produce music just to listen to when AI is better than me. I accept as a human I'm defeated by AI. I have no chance against skynet lolol.

Honestly, I'm sure that no matter what kind of music and bands you used to listen to and love so much from the past, there are current, new bands making new music inspired by them, or in the same style of. Actual human music, with actual feelings behind it. All you gotta do, is look for them. I keep finding amazing new music, often by smaller and lesser known bands of niche genres, but they are out there. My favorite album of last year isn't even on Spotify.

Now, if you've got an idea for music and wrote lyrics, you're already on the path. Music is wonderful, and there are so many ways to make it. From simple guitar and singing to fully electronic synthetizers and sample trackers. Pick it up, start learning. The process of creation itself is enjoyable, even if you only ever make music for yourself.

Now, to not continue this thread in the subject of AI or not. Yeah I don't even really listen to "octane-core" and I'm glad for it. Like I said above, there are plenty of new bands and sounds to discover, that don't fall into the corpo slop. I'll even post a random one I just found today and kinda liked.

Is it called Octane-core because of the Octane channel on XM Radio? If that's the case, I'm indifferent to most of it, we already have a local FM station the overplays stuff like that. I'll listen to it if someone else turns it on, but I will seldom turn on that kind of stuff myself.

Sorry, but you ARE simping for AI. Just because there's a lot of bad, homogenous shit doesn't mean that it's all slop. You're using your hatred of modern music to justify AI and glorify it, and that is bullshit of the highest magnitude.
