Extremely Weird And Obscure Games

I've never heard people talkin' about it.

Most obscure one i own and have played is probably xblades or a japanese copy of no more heroes but before they added move support. there were two versions of that game that came out in japan

Is the WKC franchize good?
The game is mostly meh. Your avatar is ignored a lot. And I've heard that you have to grind a lot in the first game. But I love Janky games so I am not the best person to tell you what is bad or good. For example I freaking love Alone in the Dark 2008 for moments like this one:

Not a lot of people seem to know that Under Night In-Birth is on PS3, but it's a great game:

Whenever I'm out and about, I like to look in secondhand shops and pawn shops to see what used games they have on sale. More often than not, you'll see endless swarms of once-popular AAA games being sold for a pittance. But sometimes you'll find something that's clearly had some effort put into it, but is also something you've never heard of, and for some reason it's those games that always grab my attention. Sure, these games are usually very janky. But I love picking them up, because you have no idea what you're getting.

Two such games I've managed to find are N3 Ninety-Nine Nights for the Xbox 360, and Anima Gate of Memories for the PS4. The first is a musou game and the other is a character-action game.
Honestly, they're not that bad. I just need to find some time to play them properly.

I wanted to play "Anima" on Switch, it seems good!

Now let's see if these titles are "obscure" enough to be ok in the list! All games I've owned in physical copies before re-selling them.

PSP Titles:
"Riviera The Promised Land", I bought it because I wanted to have it after playing it on GBA emulator on pc
"Gungnir" (strategy rpg), "Knights in the Nightmare" (shooter rpg?) and "Yggdra Union" (strategy rpg), along with "Riviera" they belong to the series "Dept Heaven" or something like that
"Coded Arms" and "Coded Arms Contagion", first-person-shooter, first one random generated levels (if I remember correct), second one with a plot
"Shadow of Destiny", loved it on pc and I had to buy it again on psp, time travel involved and multiple endings
"Pangya Fantasy Golf", best golf game ever played!
"Xyanide Resurrection", 2d space shooter I think it's the right way to define it

DS Titles
"Another Code Two Memory", after years I played the sequel on wii but I didn't enjoyed like the first title

PC
"The Longest Journey", point-and-click in a futuristic yet realistic American city and in a fantasy world
"Hundred Swords", real-time troops managing, found in a news kiosk years ago when they were still selling pc games

N3 Ninety-Nine Nights was a great game that I spent hours playing and was confused that I only had one friend who had ever even heard of the game.

Pangya Fantasy Golf is one of the best golf games I have ever played. It's just as good as Hot Shots or Mario Golf. My wife and I used to play that together all the time.

Aqua Aqua deserves a lot more attention. Amazing puzzle game that came out right at the beginning of the PS2 era and I spent countless hours playing that with friends.

Trying to think what games of mine would be considered “obscure”. Hmm…

Senko No Ronde is an early Xbox 360 release that I would describe as a “VS bullet hell shooter”. It’s neat!

Gekka Mugentan Torico is an FMV game for the Sega Saturn with a batshit story and a creepy, almost dreamlike vibe to its presentation. I’m kind of obsessed with it. It was released in the US under the name “Lunacy”.

the weird port of nfs undercover for the ds

(ps its still better than whatever the ps3/xbox360 version was for me)

I often went with friend by shops that selled used games back in the day. It was so fun to bring at home weird, quirky games without going broke. Here's some games that I can look at now from my collection:
  • Gba: Drill Dozer, Sigma Star Saga, Gunstar Super Heroes.
  • Gamecube: Gladius, both Lost Kingdom games, Geist, P.N. 03
  • Ps2: Sword of Etheria, Spy Fiction, Hard Knock High
  • Wii: Both the Endless Ocean games, Opoona, Fragile Dreams, Spyborgs

Speaking of weirdly good DS driving games. Did anyone play C.O.P. The Recruit? It’s an open world police sim (like a reverse GTA) with a large map, surprising level of environmental detail and it targets 60 frames per second… on the DS.

It’s not amazing gameplay-wise but from a technical standpoint it’s an incredible achievement and a real showpiece of the DS’s capabilities. It’s cheap too! Nobody ever talks about it so you can pick up a second hand copy for not very much.

This looks quite fantastic for a DS and the concept seems nice too! Never had a DS, sadly, but I would have bought this game at first glance if I had the console!

ngl it looks pretty good, third person view reminds me of the third birthday/re4. Might give it a shot soon

I also very much enjoyed Pangya Fantasy Golf. Huge Hot Shots Golf fan, and you are right, may as well be anime version of Hot Shots. :)

Some obscure ones I enjoyed were: Incredible Crisis, Rising Zan: The Samurai Gunman, Samurai Western, Einhander, and Ape Escape series. (Ape Escape maybe not so "obscure" but it hasn't been rebooted (save for the awesome Astrobot level) and more people need to check it out)

Transformers Devastation is a game I hardly hear anyone talk about, it has a lot of interesting mechanics and being developed by Platinum the soundtrack is absolutely fire
