I think what Nintendo is doing really makes no sense what's the point of fighting against emulators ? Even Nintendo's lawyer says the emulators are legal, but if you play a game on them it is suddenly illegal makes no sense really. What do you all think about console emulator ???
Emulation is legal, how you get your roms is the question. Illegally obtaining roms (as in through the repo on here for example) is obviously something they're against. I understand this from the perspective of someone that's created things before.
Now here's the thing, I don't feel an ounce of sympathy or empathy towards Shittendo, I know damn well that this whole thing isn't with the people who developed the games in mind. If it was, their old games would be readily available. Every single one of them. The Nintendo Switch Online emulators are a joke, 60€ for yearly online for N64 that has like 4 games. I wouldn't even pirate if all their games were readily available at a reasonable price on their systems. But they're not. And until then I will pirate their greedy ass games until my hands fall off.

It's not about what's legal or not. It's about swinging their huge cock around and ending projects that harm their bottom line. The Switch 2 is literally just that, a better Switch. Yuzu and Ryuujinx WOULD run Switch 2 software with little effort, so Nintendo killed the emulators to prevent piracy and increase their profits.
Keep in mind that the US legal system is a fucking joke and what is and isn't legal can change at any point if a judge sets a new precedent. Couple that with the fact that the law tends to work against those who don't have money, and if those emulator devs DID go through with the lawsuits Nintendo had a good chance of making emulators illegal.
The only way I wouldn't pirate Nintendo games was if their hardware was the best way to play them.
It never is which is just fucking retarded.
OH YOU WANNA PLAY THE NEW ZELDA GAME WITHOUT IT LOOKING LIKE A SLIDE SHOW???? TOO BAD WE KILLED THE EMULATOR LOLOOLLL
WAIT WHAT'S THAT? THOSE 20 YEAR OLD GAMES RUN AT 4K ON YOUR PC FOR FREE? NAAH FAM BUY OUR SHITTY XBOX LIVE RIPOFF BECAUSE IT'S THE RIGHT THING TO DO :D

I didn't have any issues with this really up until recently. I feel like the games I wanted to play that were exclusives to Switch were fine for me, but I'm one of those people that doesn't care so much about "UHD 4K Lens Flare RTX"
So long as the game is of high quality I don't mind how it looks, it all comes down to art style and presentation as opposed to graphics for me personally. That being said, 30fps in 2025 is abysmal. That's my only issue, even if it isn't so noticeable in handheld mode for me.
The only issue is not being fucking able to play ANY GameCube or Wii game on Switch. Let's ignore the fact there is NO fucking selection on NSO for the consoles that are there, why is there no GC or Wii? I hate Shittendo and I hate their shitty ass NSO service, but that's a whole different problem. 20-60 bucks for nothing. No custom profiles, no games, no text chat, no voice chat, no discord integration, no themes, no discounts, no nothing. Its such a cash grab, it really is borderline theft. That's why I pirate their shit. Not because their games aren't 4k 200FPS, because their services are abysmal, their eshop is a broken glitchy lag fest, there's no discounts, they overprice their games (I would never pay 70 bucks for ToTK not even if it was to save the world)
You can't even buy their stupid games cause of how ass the eshop is. This is why I pirate, to me its all about services. Shittendo still haven't figured out how to do it.
What happens is that the Big N does not want to accept that their consoles from past generations are already discontinued and also that they no longer earn money with that and also that he is supposedly against the emulation and in Nintendo Switch Online of FC-NES, GB, SFC-SNES, N64, GBC and GBA are also emulation but official (although the N64 is not fully emulated 100% Due to the complexity of the architecture that was 64-bit and even although there are several emulators of this console although they work well they suffer from graphic errors and certain problems with the timing of the audio and video in some games) although hopefully in my country where I live, that is, in Panama, the emulation is 100% legal, although not everyone has access or knowledge about it But they say that the games are not 100% legal but sometimes you have to download them on a certain descontinued platform to be able to play them because there is no other way and not only that, games on discontinued platforms, video game companies no longer make money from that, unless they have to re-release them digitally at an affordable price to be able to play it legally, but in the case of the Big N they re-release several of their old games from past generations on the switch but at full game price (B:/ 60.00 + 7% = 64.20) and also that they do not offer so many new content/novelties/quality of life with such a high and unjustified price for me and many last generation games of the Big N can already be emulated in Dolphin and Citra but at the cost of having high requirements to be able to emulate it in some games (Super M Galaxy 1 and 2, The Legend of Z - Skyward Sword and M Prime 3 - Corruption that require underclocking up to 67% = 488MHz to run decently on mid-range equipment because at 100% = 729MHz it is impossible to reach 60FPS and 30FPS due to the demanding (technically) that those Wii games were. and as citra that it is required to use OpenGL instead of Vulkan because Vulkan is not 100% stable to run 3DS games decently and you are required to underclock between 50% = 134MHz to 75% = 201 MHz for its correct operation in mid-range equipment because at 100% = 268MHz it is difficult to reach 30/60FPS depending on the game but there are games that to this day can hardly be played on citra such as L's Mansion - Dark Moon y Some P Games (Especially Gen 7 except Ultra Sun) that is in a state of poor compatibility and to this day it has not been solved (Poor performance even on high-end devices even if you use underclocking, crashes, not starting properly, etc.).

The Switch emulator in particular decrypts the encrypted Switch keys to operate, which are patented. That's why they've been successful in fighting Switch emulation. That's all there is to it.

I've never been sure why the switch emu devs went that route instead of having the decryption and emulation separate like 3ds roms. Was there a technical reason why it had to be like that? Is there no way to decrypt switch roms prior to loading them into an emulator?

I don't know. The Yuzu project was doing a lot of things that would bring negative attention to them like receiving patreon payments to emulate the latest Nintendo games. I can only assume it was out of arrogance.
Honestly I really soured on Nintendo since they hit AM2R with a cease and desist. How they C&D other fan projects and not being able to transfer your retro games from previous console so you have to rebuy them every time didn't do any favors for my impression of them. Also Palworld.
They used the citra/yuzu devs (that said, the switch emulator when the console itself still sells was a huge land mine from the start) case and their joke of service to get money out of old games to start all of this.
Before of that they where in the "ok, but not abuse" area like the others, nintendo in fact was more into making sure fangames of mario, zelda, pokemon and metroid didnt show up outside of their consoles
But now that they decided to use their old games for quick cash and emus are in their way..... yeah...

Yeah that always seemed a bit dumb. But if yuzu wasn't decrypting roms it wouldn't have mattered. Even the forks that came afterwards didn't make any attempt to decouple the decryption from the emulation.
as the law is right now nintendo is fighting a losing battle since emulator are legal
and in some countrys if you did buy the games you play on your emulator
or you did use your own games to make roms its legal
and emulator are here to stay nintento should just accept that fact
there is no where to buy old nintendo games and those old consols are not even produced anymore
so of course people will get a emulator and get roms
when it comes to their old games nintendo should just let it go since you can no longer buy the consols or the games and the games are over 30 years old its not like nintendo make money on the old games anymore and they do not sell them anymore
their new games like the switch i can understand its illegal and a switch emulator makes nintendo lose money so i can understant why they hunt them
in my opinion nintendo should stop fighting against emulator and make their own emulator that can play all old nintendo consol games
and than star to sell all their old and new games at a reasonable price
i'm probably in the minority here, but i think that emulators for consoles still on market (like Switch, PS4/PS5) shouldn't exist
emulation should be just for retrogaming imo.
Of course i would also like Nintendo to finally leave alone all the homebrew remake/mods of their back in the day successes

Yeah if Nintendo made their own emulator with a complete library of games they would have to worry about a lot less piracy. I honestly think pettiness is motivating them at this point.

They would never do that because they would have to pay royalties to all the 3rd party companies for their games. That's why its mostly nintendo titles on the NSO service.

Would be true for the companies who published on Nintendo consoles that still exist and the ones who hold the intellectual properties for defunct companies, didn't think of that. I guess continuing to emulate it is.

I think it's not so much piracy than other companies they're fighting against, just as usual. Valve putting Yuzu on the Steam Store to sell their crappy SteamDeck was competition against their crappy Switch, so Nintendo would get a shot at Yuzu, of course.
If I were a Nintendo lawyer I would do that as well. Being who I am, I'll still use the Repo. I dont have any interest in Switch games anyway, I like my games at least twenty years old, could spend the rest of my days playing old masterpieces.
If you dont like it, then stop supporting those lawyer armies with your money. Nintendo, Valve, Epic, Gog, it's all the same.
