I'm playing through Ninja Gaiden Black on the original Xbox, and I'm beyond stuck. It's my first time playing it, I'm on Normal. I'm on Chapter 7, on a boss. A demon chick. I can barely hit her, I have no health items, and there are no shops. I've been stuck on her for days. What's the secret I'm missing? I'm honestly at the point where I'm thinking of quitting, or completely restarting the game so that I hopefully have health items when I get to her.

It's crazy how hard this game is. I've beaten all six classic God Of War games, I beat God Of War 2018 on "Give Me God Of War" including all the valkyries, I beat all three Bayonettas, all six Devil May Crys, Demon's Souls, Bloodborne, all three Dark Souls, Elden Ring... and I still find this game BRTUAL.

Ninja Gaiden Black is definitely hard as nails.
Had to check a video to remember which boss that was - the only real advice I can give is: When in doubt, use Flying Swallow (that's true for the entire series, pretty much) followed by shuriken. Oh and take out the adds asap.

Also, learning the timing of when to charge your... I forget what the game calls it - Ultimate Strike maybe? The charge attack. - is important for that boss, since you won't really be able to get off a combo on her unless you stagger her.

But it's going to be a struggle no matter what, that game is genuinely really difficult.

If I remember she has a rock/pillar throw move. Personally I always dodged this with a roll jump (or two consecutive ones)

I think there's also a beam attack? It can be dodged in a similar manner I think.

If she charges at you I think you can land a flying swallow at her. Always try to hit her with a flying swallow when she's stationary because this can knock her down. You can also try to knock her down with a flame ninpo.

When she's knocked down you can do a large amount of damage with the XYXXX combo using the Dragon Sword.

If you miss the flying swallow, always move out of the way quick with a roll jump because she will try to do her grab move. In fact you don't want her to be close to you in general.

But yes I've heard multiple people get stuck on this part because they ran out of health items.

Chapter 7 Alma? Just think of her as a little test of endurance. She'll always have a set chance to dodge your attacks, so just keep going at it until you get her.
But she usually has more of an opening after she grounds herself after an attack, & always use Flying Swallow as the opening move.
This video seems to show your average fight against her. Just try to keep your spirits up by knowing you can potentially beat her in one minute!

Day six of being stuck on the Chapter 7 boss...
If I play entirely defensively, I can pretty much dodge every attack indefinitely. The second I go on the offensive, it all goes to hell.

JayTB123 is the GOAT of Ninja Gaiden. Here is his breakdown of Alma. Know how to dodge and do a haze straight slash when she dives headfirst towards you.

That first Alma fight is rough. My suggestion from here on out is to make 2 save files so if you have to go back you can. Ninja Gaiden 1 is very different from 2 and 3, and it can be overwhelming at first with how aggressive the game gets after a certain point. Especially on the harder difficulties. Hopefully you beat her for me man, I gotta see a homie get a victory over her lol

the shop should be outside the cathedral. As far as I know, the best strategy is to dodge, do not spam flying swallow or jump; that's how she gets the upper hand. Once she does her dive and is in the ground, do 1 to 4 hits and back away; any more and she'll either grab you or kick you.

Alma is such a bitch the first time you fight her, I got stuck on her too for awhile back in the day. She's probably one of the hardest bosses in the game honestly; top 3 for sure.

I hate Alma so much.
Yup. Her, and her stupid weird head, and her "interesting" character design that makes it incredibly obvious Itagaki himself probably designed her appearance.

Good work on persevering! I figured it was Alma when you said "demon chick", what a cunt. I remember my first time through the game I was also stuck on her for days. I had no healing items and only half a bar of health. I did it eventually, but holy hell, she is not kind to new players. I beat the game on every difficulty except Master Ninja and I can only imagine what she's like on that. ::eek I should try playing through it again, fantastic but brutal game. I don't know if my reflexes could handle it anymore. x)

My experience with Ninja Gaiden Black:
•Get stuck on part for a week
•Finally, but barely, get passed part
•Inch forward slightly
•Get stuck at next part for a week

Was stuck on the tanks (the next boss after Alma) all morning. Finally had to quit to go to work. At this rate it's going to take me all year to finish it. I'm just not gitting gud like I should be.

The tanks are a pretty silly boss, all the military ones are. My advice is just slamming the explosive or APDS arrows, and keep jumping.

The game is brutal, but eventually you can break through the wall. My number one advice; always keep moving, and learn what gives you I-frames (wind run jump, flying swallow, spam izuna drop). You also can't get greedy with you attacks, especially against bosses. It's better to get a few hits in with a small string then disengage.

The tanks are rough. And honestly don't feel too bad about not getting good. You probably won't until a subsequent playthrough where you are more accustomed to how the game plays and what to expect. All three games are made with repeat playthroughs in mind. Just get through it and enjoy the experience. Once you finish the game and feel you liked it enough to play again is when it'll really click. I've been playing the modern Ninja Gaiden games since I was like 7 years old so trust me when I say it doesn't click right away. But there's a reason I keep coming back.

Well, I'm giving up on Ninja Gaiden Black. I have been bested. Made it up to the double tanks/helicopter boss part. I just can't do it, and I'm no longer having fun struggling through it. I tried my best, I'm ready to move on. Thanks for the tips.
Now to decide on a new game to start.

Honestly. You should just come back to it later when you have a fresh mind. Don't force yourself to complete it. I told the same thing to my homie who started Black.

I've only ever quit 3 games because they were too hard for me. Celeste, Sekiro, and now Ninja Gaiden Black lol
