Let's discuss the influence of the band's impact on the Music industry and Video games too... [Especially Quake] and worship the man, the myth and the legend that is Trent Reznor.

I was ignoring NIN for a long time because I considered them too mainstream compared to "real" industrial bands like Coil or Einstürzende Neubauten but that changed after I discovered that Head Like a Hole inspired one of System Shock tracks. Since then Broken and Pretty Hate Machine are my absolute favorites.

Just wanted to say that I've enjoyed a good amount of Trent's work. I liked the albums Pretty Hate Machine, Downward Spiral, With Teeth, The Fragile and I go back to listening to The Broken EP here and there.

The Ghosts albums were also nice as I would sometimes listen to the Ghosts albums when I used to study. Trent Reznor also did a great job with The Social Network soundtrack. It's a great movie that is even better with the music that Trent Reznor made for the soundtrack.

I recall the hype about the Quake soundtrack, but I don't remember it being that memorable.

However, Nine Inch Nails was huge during the 90's. Downward Spiral was huge. Closer and Hurt would get played constantly on MTV. I did like Pretty Hate Machine, Fragile and Year Zero as well.

The Year Zero ARG was a mistake because it eventually led to Bob's Game.
Though I still think Purest Feeling is better than Pretty Hate Machine.

The Broken EP is the closest Nine Inch Nails gets to full on industrial. For the most part it is hard rock infused with EDM/industrial influences.

I know most people like early NIN better, but I think The Slip and Add Violence are extremely underrated.
I fucking LOVE those two. NIN is one of my favorite bands, and it's honestly incredible how CONSISTENT the output has been. The Cold & Black & Infinite trilogy as a whole is stellar, Bad Witch is in the running for my favorite NIN album alongside The Fragile. (though maybe I'm biased, having seen them on that tour. hearing Over & Out live with a whole venue singing along was legitimately the closest I've ever come to a religious experience)
I don't think there's a single bad NIN release, though that does discount Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D or however the leetspeek spelling of that thing goes. Even all the other remix albums kick ass, hell I think Fixed is as good as Broken, if not better, but then again that's what happens when you get legends like Coil (rest in peace, Chris and John) and J.G. Thirlwell of Foetus to do remixes: they knock that shit out of the park. As also shown by Further Down The Spiral.

Trent and Atticus are absolutely fantastic with their soundtrack work across the board. Also shout out to their absolutely killer (hehehe) version of the Halloween theme.

Let's not forget that Chris Vrenna who did the music for American McGee's Alice, is also a member of Nine Inch Nails.
And the music in that game is a downright masterpiece!
Such a shame that he only did a single track in the sequel. :(
