I'm a retro game lover by day, but when the sun goes down... I'm a grubby music collector! I just spent $100 on a cassette tape! I cannot be trusted with money.

I think there's a lot of overlap between game collectors and music collectors! I'm sure there's a lot of overlap on this very forum! We both tend to be very concerned with authenticity, seeking out original pressings and oftentimes albums only ever released on obscure antiquated formats! We also tend to be a bit more comfortable parting with our money than we should be.
Are there any other collectors on here? If so, what was your latest pickup? What's your holy grail? I'd love to hear from ya!

I will end this post with probably the stupidest best piece of Vinyl I own.

i collect vinyl and cd! however my collection isnt too big...

As much as I love music, my physical collection is very small. I think my holy grail is the Shin Megami Law & Chaos soundtrack. Most of the stuff I love is extremely rare/expensive in my country...

My mom has this HUGE HUGE case full of albums from the 80s and 90s which naturally predates my existence as well ?
I used to collect my fair amount of CDs as well but stopped around when CD players and wired headphones started to become outdated. I am no longer at home so I don't have pictures but I do know a few of the cds we have, including:

-Stillmatic by Nas
-Mama Said Knock You Out by LL Cool J
-Watch the Throne by Jay Z and Kanye West, which makes me infinitely sad about the first song's singer
-Reasonable Doubt by Jay Z
-Totally Hip Hop
-Greatest Hits by U2
-How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb by U2
-The Yellow Album from Spongebob
-Various Eminem albums, never did get Encore, but after hearing some of the songs, that might've been for the best
-many of the infamous "Now That's What I Call Music" CDs, I think from 3 up to 34 with a few gaps and broken CD cases
-Used to have Kids Bop too but I grew up and trashed them. I had 1-34 in order with no gaps, plus Gold, Halloween, Motown and others

other than that, there were a few library rentals I got with my library card when I was younger. Listened to them on my CD players and burned them to iTunes. God I'm old ???

-Theater of the Mind by Ludacris (was a library rental)
-Gorillaz by Gorillaz (was a library rental)
-Plastic Beach by Gorillaz (was a library rental)
-Paper Trail by TI (was a library rental)

These are all that I remember btw

Deco*27 Ghost limited edition album set
That's really cool! I totally respect any vocaloid fans, it seems like such a wide and varied world. My girlfriend is a big Miku fan. Is your copy of Ghost the box set with the pizza print? That looks cool as hell! Packaging is such a lost art imo!

Hey man, that's nothing to be ashamed of! Everyone's gotta start somewhere. For the longest time, I could only get CDs on Christmas or Birthdays. I got my copy of the Gorillaz S/T by saving up lunch money LOL. Just as long as you're collecting music you like!

Oh dude, that set is insane! I love SMT so much (not to mention its music), I'm surprised I hadn't heard of it before! It's always so badass having physical copies of game soundtracks. They always have such care and attention put into them. I have Super Metroid's OST on Vinyl and it fills me with so much joy to look at.

i collect music too, but i collect bootlegs. music you can't buy in the stores or on official sites like amazon.

Here's one of my favorite albums that I own physically. This is one of the original printings of the album Deathconciousness by Have A Nice Life. I wanted it specifically cause it came with this lil novella type thing that one of the band members wrote as a companion piece to the album. The DVDs are also spray painted which i think is a really cool touch.

I collect CDs, not that huge, mostly Japanese artists and video game music, may be some overlaps between the two, and some 90s to 2000s hip hop stuff.

My holy grail is probably Sakura Wars Complete Song Box, photo taken from internetz.

Fun Fact about that SMT album: you know how SMT if remixes a few of the SMT 1 songs to make them decent length? Those came from that album. They sounded exactly like the original game when you hear them on the album, likely because the SNES had music limits. "Cathedral" especially is the one that stuck around, as that album version got used in if, the Sega CD version of SMT 1, Imagine and even the 25th Anniversary album.

Yeah, that's the one! I've got a handful of CDs from some of the big names in the scene like Wowaka, Ryo, Deco*27, Mitchie M, Utsu-p, etc. I know a lot of the music's readily available online, but nothing beats having a collection to display.

That's rad! I love me a good bootleg! Especially vinyl bootlegs, I have this one lathe cut 12" of music from the Wii operating system on side A, and a bunch of Wii Sports/Wii Party music on side B. That disc gets spun a lot when I'm cleaning my house on days off lol.

Deathconciousness by Have A Nice Life
That RULES so much oh my god! Reminds me of this one CD I have by short-lived Psych Rock group Cornish in a Turtleneck (yes, really). All their CDs come in this wild hand-colored-cardboard-and-velcro-disc-wallet, and their third album comes with a short story written by their frontman which vaguely matches the music! It's kind of spacey, experimental music about dreams and fits really well.

This is the only vinyl I own. It's a damn good one though. Most of my CDs were stolen years ago, my cassette collection is all from when I was a kid and is tiny, but I do have a huge digital music collection. The deepest pull I can think of would have to be WHOHM by Rah Bras. An ex introduced me to them years ago and I've never seen anyone talk about them or even know of them. Ooh that's ruddy mysterious. But really, much to my surprise they have a Bandcamp page! No Furture and Mother Put The Wheel Away I Can Not Spin Tonight are my favorites.

I know this isn't a buy/sell thread, but if anybody ever finds a lead on where I can find Circus Of Dead Squirrel's CDs "Indoor Recess" and "Pop Culture Massacre And The End Of The World Sing-A-Long Storybook" please share those with me lol

I might be a fool to say that I like collecting CDs. Vinyl is cooler, yes, but the low cost of entry and generally high quality of CD has led me to pursue it. Not to mention, it has a large amount of crossover with my video game collecting hobby.

I have a small collection of CDs, but my main goal is to get all the Sum 41 albums. They’re my favorite band, so getting physical copies of all their music means a lot to me. I’ve made a lot of progress, even getting some holy grails like the JP release of Chuck, but I’m still missing a fair few.

I just get CD’s from artists I like on Bandcamp whenever I can, or Vinyl’s.View attachment 45997
Mad respect for the Bandcamp love! Fantastic website, probably one of the best parts of the internet. This is my tape shelf, most of which were bought on Bandcamp. The best tapes are the hand dubbed ones (most of the time, anyway).

i actually make my own cd's and just add the tracks i want to them or add bonus tracks not on the official version, since you can always fit more songs than what actually comes on store bought cd's, also make a back and front cover for it, custom different version of a cover than the store bought one.

Hey man, nothing wrong with that! CDs were my first musical love! It's all about enjoying the act of collecting, building up a personal library of your favorites. Lots will try to kid you that they do it for logical reasons--like that vinyl sounds better or something, but they're full of crap. I say this with a tube amp hooked up to my turntable. In truth we collect because it feels good, and if it feels good to you, you're doing it right!!

Oh dude, back when I was a broke kid I used to do that all the time. I have a big shoebox under the bed at my parents' house with probably 100+ CD-R Pink Floyd live bootlegs lol. Not to mention all the Nintendo soundtracks I burned.
I think the blank CD is a really democratic thing!!

These are great! Big respect to anyone who digs Tribe! That tape on the top, is that ThorHighHeels as in the YouTuber??

I have a small vinyl collection of my own: currently I have Led Zeppelin I-IV, The Doors, Psychofunkster au Lait and La Canción de Juan Perro among my favorites. Sadly, there aren't many places I can go to regularly that sell vinyls, but I'm hoping to complete my LedZep collection and get a few Beatles and The Who albums. Hopefully I can also catch Highway 61 Revisited, Leño or El Mal Querer.
