Music Artists you discovered through Gaming

Definitively have to second the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series as the game with the best Punk/Alternative rock soundtrack of all gaming. I discovered Primus, Dead Kennedys, System of a Down, Iron Maiden, Sex Pistols and various other bands through the series. I particularly loved the soundtrack of the 4th iteration of the series.

  • Aesop Rock - Labor
  • Agent Orange - Bloodstains (Darkness Version)*
  • Avail - Simple Song*
  • City Stars feat. Jai Plus - Bad Dreams
  • De La Soul - Oodles Of O's
  • Delinquent Habits - House Of The Rising Drum*
  • Eyedea & Abilities - Big Shots
  • Flogging Molly - Drunken Lullabies
  • Gang Starr - Mass Appeal
  • Goldfinger - Spokesman*
  • Haiku D'Etat - Non Compos Mentis
  • Hot Water Music - Freightliner
  • Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast
  • JFA - Beach Blanket Bongout
  • Less Than Jake - All My Best Friends Are Metalheads
  • Lootpack - Whenimondamic*

  • Muskabeatz feat. Melle Mel - I'm A Star
  • N.W.A. - Express Yourself
  • Nebula - Giant*

TH was Baby’s first Punk for a reason, so glad it was developed since it basically created the new wave of skaters.

Oh, I forgot about GTA 3. I played GTA3 before I had watched Scarface and didn't realize they ripped off most of their soundtrack from that movie. But there were so many 80s tunes that I had never heard of. It was a good glimpse into 80's pop music.

The classical/opera station was also fire. I had heard these songs before but listening to them while going on a crime spree was something else.

A bunch of 80's 90's Artists from playing Vice City an San Andreas. Uematsu Nobuo from FFs Yamane Michiru from Castlevania Shimomura Yoko on SF2, Jesper Kyd from the Assasin's Creed games, Sound Team JDK Band from Falcom and more.

Aside from Assassin's Creed, I share the same as TotzOnGaming for all that he mentioned.

I grew up with Madden 07 as an early game of mine, which has caused me to look back on licensed music around that time very fondly. So, here are some others I can add, primarily from sports titles:

Fine Again by Seether from Madden 03

All That's Left by Thrice from Madden 04

Countdown by Jupiter One from Madden 08

Going Through Changes by Army of Me from Burnout Paradise

Pitchshifter - Microwaved, Innit, W.Y.S.I.W.Y.G. from Twisted Metal III (PS)

LIV - Fly from Chaos Legion (PS2)

Professional Murder Music - Slow from Jet Set Radio (DC)

I want to mention Frequency on PS2- besides the five artists the rest (21) were new to me. Follow-up Amplitude had a handful as well although I recognized the majority.

Yeah! Even the PSP Burnout games had a really good selection of songs. And when I played Paradise I got sick of Paradise City, yet I still got it on my phone. ::cirnoshrug
