I find it really unique way of looking on "movies vs games, games vs movies. who inspires who"

This is something for You Gamers:

Movies that have the same atmosphere and feel like well-known games
Game / Movie:
Silent Hill: Jacob's Ladder, The Mothman Prophecies. The Void, The Beyond (1981)
Binary Domain: Gunhed - Robot War, Screamers (1995)
Dead Space: Event Horizon, Dark Side of the Moon, Titan Find, Galaxy of Terrror
Martian Gothic: Event Horizon, Dark Side of the Moon, Titan Find, Galaxy of Terrror
Lost Planet: Screamers (1995)
Forbidden Siren/Siren: The Sadeness (2022)
Resident Evil: Revelations: Harbinger Down
Cold Fear: Harbinger Down
Still Wakes The Deep: Harbinger Down
Fallout 3: The Divide (2011)
Metro 2033: The Divide (2011)
Duke Nukem 3D: Hardcore Henry
BulletStorm: Hardcore Henry
Secret of Monkey Island: Double Crossbones (1951)
Fort Solis: Moontrap (1989), Moon, Outland

btw. v2. If You have similar list , please share

Enjoy :)

Watching "Kelly's Heroes" on TV, while zapping randomly because I didn't know anything about it, I got the same vibes as "Sniper Elite 4 Italia" -I had played that not too long before seeing the movie

Kinda sorta laziest examples ever:

Severance (TV series) > Control
Battle Royale (2000) > Any BR or extraction shooter game

GTA: Free Guy

Cold Fear (PS2) - The Wreck of the Mary Deare (1959), Virus (1999)
...Iru! (PS1) - Whispering Corridors (1998)
Fatal Frame (PS2) - Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell (1995), The Legend of Hell House (1973)
Silent Hill (PS1) - Angel Heart (1987), Messiah of Evil (1973), Carnival of Souls (1962), Dead & Buried (1981)
Resident Evil (PS1) - R-Point (2004), Hell of the Living Dead (1980), Zombi 3 (1988), The Dead Next Door (1989)

Lisa the First: OPAL (Jack Stauber)
Megaman: Astroboy 2009
Megaten: Narutaru
Grim Fandango: Coco
Castlevania: Van Hellsing

Alan Wake: Twin Peaks and a lot of stories of Stephen king.

Silent Hill 1: the moments that you are with lisa in the otherworld are like the scenes in the red room of Twin peaks

And speaking of more Twin peaks and that red room: Deadly Premonition.

fast and furious and basically every racing game of the time NFS underground, Juiced, and Street Racing Syndicate are three that come to mind

  • Mortal Kombat: Bloodsport, Big Trouble in Little China, Enter the Dragon (all 3 films have been cited as the inspirations for the 1st game)
  • Dead Rising: Dawn of the Dead (1978 original)
  • Metal Gear: Escape from New York
  • Castlevania: Symphony of the Night: Vampire Hunter D (and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust)
  • Snatcher: Blade Runner, Terminator

My first article on the site was basically an excuse to talk about Hundreds of Beavers and it's many video game conventions, it's not referencing a specific game but the feel of several of them.

(There is a section late in the film that's awfully Donkey Kong Country, though.)

Upon watching it, my boyfriend said that Annihilation had a very similar vibe to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series and I have to agree with him. That fucking bear is way more freaky than anything in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. though, holy hell. Whoever came up with that deserves a big raise.

Visual effects coordinator Andrew Whitehurst was hired on to be a lead supervisor at ILM about a year later, so...he did! (Ohmygod the bear was crazy.)

Also, a little funny, Stalker (1979) was a major influence on Annihilation!

This is very good news, he did really well in Ex Machina too. He seems to work really well with Alex Garland in general. Hopefully the two of them will continue to collaborate. ::biggrin

That bear though. Not to stroke my own dick, but horror doesn't generally get to me, I usually find well done movie monsters to just be cool. That bear got to me a bit though. Super well done and very intense scene. We need more stuff like that in horror.

Oh? Excellent. I can totally see it. It's funny how things come around full circle like that sometimes.

This is probably a stretch but it's one of my favorite movies: Little Nightmares reminds me of Pan's Labyrinth (2006), in that both are dealing with a young girl attempting to navigate an adult world that is horrific in both a literal and fantastical sense
