Hello, I'll open an AMA for anyone curious to ask questions.
I've worked as a software engineer for 12 years now, you can ask me about computers or game development and I'll try to answer.

My first console was the NES/Genesis, the first I owned was the N64.

Wow, that’s a very cool career path! How’d you get into it, and have you enjoyed your time as a SWE?

Also, do you hate people in marketing? Asking for a friend.

Your favorite game from your childhood?
Also, how was your day?

I liked K-ON a lot when it aired; Yui was and still is hilarious.

I was studying graphic design but it didn't quite convince me so I switched to something more technically challenging and that could pay the bills. I have enjoyed some years and others have been painfully crunchy.

You rarely interact with marketing from my perspective; mostly designers and project management and we do hate project managers.

It's Viewitful Joe for the Gamecube. My sister rented it for me one Friday, she said it looked cool and yeah, it was the coolest game a 9 year old could play.

It was okay, went to therapy and worked. Currently playing some games before going to sleep.

What language do you use the most and what game development engine would you recommend for beginner?

I mainly use Swift in my day to day since I work in iOS app development. I've used C, C++, C#, Ruby, Kotlin, Java, React, Javascript and some other that I don't remember.

I would ask you how much programming knowledge do you have before making a suggestion but I'd say GameMaker Studio 2.

Unity has a huge amount of tutorials and documentation available for beginners as well but the engine itself is bloated and needlessly complex for some of the simplest tasks.

I personally use Godot since it's lightweight, open source and lets you prototype and get your ideas working fast.

What is the meaning of life in your book moonbitsuuuu

Moonbits, you actually have my favourite avatar on RGT, and I’ve liked it ever since I first saw one of your posts. If you don’t mind me asking, where’s it from and why’d you choose it?

I like cats and mushrooms; my cat is named Kinoko.
(I found it on Pinterest one random night)

Are there any games you would point to as an example of having impressive design/coding?

I don't dabble too much into source code. Back then there weren't many rules for synaxis or readability so you could find something that might be a really cool algorithm but most of the code reads like:

while(good) { tmzfloorz->gvec_1*;}

and god knows what that means, only the guy who wrote it knows but it works so that's that.

One that came to mind was the way Playdead used Unity to make INSIDE
It's quite a technical talk of course but they did so many clever tricks to target 60fps. At that point I wondered why they stuck with Unity but alas, if there's a will there's a way.

Random question for you based on something I've been thinking about, moonbits. As a professional developer, do you have any particular opinions on open-source software? If so, do you think it has a steady future going forward? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I like open source software but there's always a catch with them: compatibility, maintenance and support.

A lot of SDK/APIs and file formats are copyrighted so sometimes even open source software struggles to keep up with commercial software. I still think it's the best type of software since it can be maintained by a community.

Wagwannnn, would you rather smell like weed for the rest of your life or smell like skunk for the rest of your life?

I'm okay with smelling like weed, I already do.

How would you rank the Persona series? From your favorite to least favorite. ::thumbsupwario
