This is my first thread on this forum. I just had these ideas that I want to talk about :)

A brief introduction...?
First off... What do I mean by the title: Modern Retro Fusion? To begin with, I had these vision of a concept that I want to bring out. I am an artist but I lost motivation on making things specifically in cinematography or illustration. Even though that is the case, the ideas never stop flowing in. I want to make these story of a world where technology has stopped evolving, the world's economy has been in the dumps or rather..., Stagnated. People are just trying to survive with old, used technologies that has been scattered around the world. Repurposing them, and even use it to somewhat innovate on their own.

Since I can't bring this story out or translate it to a medium, I'm just trying to live that kind of future (present).

BEHOLD:
My gaming companion!
That cute little Xperia with the DS is such a sight to look at.

I recently purchased an old smartphone mainly for aesthetic purposes, but of course it would be a waste if I let it just stay there. Hence, my idea of making it as a vessel for an AI companion. I've installed a lot of different kind of productivity apps in here such as an organic map, weather forecast, news and the main driver; DEEPSEEK. I am not promoting it though and I know about the controversies surrounding it. BUT, if it's going to be used on a separate device and would only received gaming, hardware query prompts would it really be a danger to your privacy?

I've chosen this specific model because of it's capability and it's free! It just look cool when it's doing its Deepthink R1 pictures side by side while playing on your retro machine.
You can use a different AI model but unfortunately ChatGPT just won't let me login to the old device PLUS not to mention that fees you had to pay openAI.

EEEW WALKTHROUGH :P
Well yeah, technically it's a walkthrough machine. But as an adult that only has a few free time to enjoy this kind of things, this if fine enough. You can also change the prompts making it just give you different info that's not a walkthrough like maybe a bit of a description on the stage or place you're at on the game or even maybe give certain facts too. It's just cool to think that you have a Pokedex like companion that you can actually interact with.

I even installed Google Lens to help me identify some things on games or maybe for hardware identification stuff. This is also similar to that Rabbit R1 that's supposed to revolutionize the AI device industry but of course failed to do so. I just thought of why not make my own. It's not perfect but with the aesthetic of an old Xperia X Compact device. I'm more than good with this setup.

What are your thoughts on this? How would you actually do this on your end?

Devices:
Xperia X Compact
NDSi LL

Camera used:
Xperia 1 iii

I like to keep my tablet next to me with the manual of the game, or a strategy guide for the game, or the wiki site of the game. I've never considered using an LLM like ChatGPT..

I wonder how good DeepSeek or other LLMs are at providing accurate information with games that arent as hugely popular as Pokémon. Like would DeepSeek be able to help me mid game in Phantasy Star 3? Like, would it be able to tell me to go to Satera and where to find it, when I ask about Nial's Quest?
Problems with LLMs is that they rarely tell you when they dont know something, they just start making up nonsense.

I don't really like to use AI, in fact up until a few months ago when I used it to solve something for one of my classes I never used it
Although I will say that Xperia brought me back, my dad used to have a black Xperia years ago and I've been meaning to buy one to act as a music player for me
One last thing, companies like Nintendo would be so much if they just released some sort of AI companion for their upcoming Pokemon game for example, I feel like it would be kind of fun too and even someone that's so far against the use of AI like me would probably give it a try and find it fun

I guess if an LLM didnt know about a game I'm playing, i could maybe feed the LLM a strategy guide that I copy from GameFAQs, and then it would probably be more helpful

I love that you have a way to express your ideas. And I just... Love you! Continue doing what you love, no matter what and when; it will always find its way for you.

I understand that, when AI hallucinate it sucks hard. But deepseek has its deepthink R1 function where it will reason out to itself and you can show the thought process that it's having before it provides an answer. It also has data up to July of 2024 and if you're using it with online then probably it can help with even an underrated game.

From my experience, LLMs are most helpful in areas that don't require an accurate information, like creative writing or idea brainstorming. You shouldn't use them as search engines.

Same! I used to hate AI until I started utilizing them to my benefit like making them do task and even this.

Also yeah Xperia phones are really good when it comes to design and somehow a nostalgic factor.

Actually, I did this to the PC version of Copilot Ai and it works! If you feed it a pdf or other document file it can read it for you or even just a copy pasted unformatted text it will understand and inform you.

Thanks for being supportive 🥰 I love you too!

My game room was designed with similar purpose in mind, should a total catastrophe is coming I wanna be able to preserve whatever I could save to last me a lifetime, with no reliance to internet. I spent majority of my money to buy ODE or whatever I could for most of the retro consoles, also storing guides and cheats locally in a hard drive. Aside from my physical media collection, I try to save digital only media like videos, music, por... ahem I mean tutorials, software, and sometimes interesting stuff like developer interview snippet and magazine scans too although they are extremely scarce.

It's still work in progress even now, but Covid was the perfect test bed and I am confident to say, it works. I can, and did, survive being a hermit inside my game room for months without going crazy.

Huge salute to you my guy! One day, you'll be one of the major individuals that will definitely have a huge role on the physical media preservation and hopefully to be able to share them too as a soft copy if almost every physical media will become extinct

Always good to be prepared, let's hope such situation won't happen in the future.
