I just think when you add excessive speed you ruin the platforming experience somewhat. You mentioned the perfect example with Sonic Advance 2. Honestly they should have used all that speed for bonus stages or something.

Unlike other games hampered by deadlines, or a questionable concept to start with (forcing two protagonists in Chaotix?), Sonic Advance 2 has few excuses for itself. Special stages are bland, and even locating them is an obnoxious feat. There's that boss who has a one-hit-kill attack, when it's not even a final boss or bonus challenge to explain it away.

I think the first Rush game managed to actually have a good balance between fast paced action and platforming.
I completely agree, Sonic Rush is my favorite of the boost games.
The popular opinion was that Advance 2 was the best of the trilogy but the more time goes on the less I appreciate it because I feel that the GBA screen crunch is detrimental whereas Rush with the two screens was the best for it.
I've been lurking in the Sonic community since the early 2000s, I don't ever recall anyone making such claim aside from Sam Procrastinates and only because he had that one growing up, don't get me wrong, in 2009 on a trip to my home country I was introducing children from different relatives' families who were big Sonic fans from the anime to Sonic Advance 2, I figured it was the best and easiest game to introduce to a child who watched Sonic X and wanted a game based on it, only problem is the girls wanted to play as Amy and she's not easy to unlock, I'm biased I like all three games but my go to is often Advance 1 🤷‍♂️

Oh I also feel the same way, Advance 3 was ambitious and I liked the partner mechanic (especially in co-op mode) it also has imo the best soundtrack and the best story in the trilogy, but overall Advance 1 is my go to, Advance 2 is my least favorite for the same exact reasons as Sonic Unleashed, it's way too fast for me, level design is kinda cheap, and the completion criteria is insane.

Unleashed's biggest issue is not much about speed (well, Generations managed to balance speed and platforming better than the day stages) but the RPG elements and the medal collection to be allowed to advance in the story.

And yes, the level design felt cheap sometimes too.

Makes me wonder why we didn't see any new 2.5D Boost game in a while. Even if Generations on the 3DS could officiously be called "Rush 4" (Colours DS being "Rush 3") I'm less fan of handheld entries becoming just smaller versions of mainline ones.
I completely agree.
He's playable, just requires a code of some sort, I forgot the details.
True, I completely forgot about this, it's been a very long time.
Advance is a solid entry, perhaps my favourite of the three because Advance 2 is probably too speed focused and Advance 3 gets confusing.

Just being curious why but then the amount of 3D Classic Sonic stuff can be counted on the palm of one hand.

I'll take classic over modern any day, be it in 2D or 3D.

I enjoy both but I lean more towards modern personally, Sonic Advance and Sonic Adventure 2 are my fave games.

I feel the inclusion of Blaze is the only element similar to Sonic Rush, everything else feels like a classic Sonic game, no boost, no homing attack, no trick system, is not a bad thing just different.

There is another Rom hack that always impressed me back in the day, The S Factor, where you play as Silver and Sonia, odd choice, not Silver and Blaze, not Sonia and Manic, but Silver and Sonia... okay, but is a good hack too from what I remember, I may add it later, will have to revisit it.
It's an interesting concept to have Sonia, a made up character for one show, in a romhack (thus making her video game debut in some way).

And I'm fine with the underdogs getting represented in a romhack instead of yet another one with Shadow, Metal Sonic or even Mighty (which is the most popular underrated character around).

I think Scourge is planned for a next update.

I could never enjoy Adventure to be honest, but I'll grant Advance is solid, especially graphically (the sound and level design are weak, though, IMO).

S Factor is pretty good, although the balance is definitely off in places.

Well, despite being a Romhack from Sonic the Hedgehog, this one is curious because it feels like an alternate version of Sonic Rush for DS, but in 16-bits, and that also that the design of the levels they are completely renovated for the Romhack and the effort is very noticeable at least and as an obvious but certain thing it has the possibility of playing with Blaze the Cat and that makes it curious in this Romhack of the 1st Sonic.

It's Glameow in Sonic! Yeah. I have no idea because I only know Sonic up to Sonic & Knuckles. ::sailor-embarrassed

Played this one on Switch a few years back, playable Blaze is always nice
