The theatrical preview of the new Gundam series is releasing soon in western theaters, what do you think of it? are you going to watch it?
Given how it's an alternative timeline of the Universal Century, I'm really interest to see how this one turns out, especially the Char stuff;
the mechanical design is interesting, it clearly shows that this is a collaboration between Sunrise and studio Khara from Eva: the line art is not that great but mobile suits really shine in 3d.

Another thing worth nothing is that the character designer is Take, which you may know from the latest Pokemon games:

I think most people especially in Asian Countries where the gunpla hobby is booming are more interest in the Red Gundam. The BANDAI official site released info about this universe where Char Aznable stole the Gundam, used it and disappeared afterwards. Even the FORBES made an article about it.

I haven't seen it yet, but it seems that the more someone likes the First Gundam, the higher they rate it.
In Japan, it was popular among both young people and older fans.

I don't know... I'm a little skeptical with the whole Char stuff, if they wanted to make an AU where the Gundam technology was taken by the Zeon empire that's fine, why shoe horn Char in? Looks like cheap fan service...

It's a "Char" suit, no wonder it's popular. It also uses the psycommu system as you can see.
I do not like all the funnel shenanigans from Zeta onwards honestly (in CCA everybody uses them)

During the One year war in Side 6, Gene's Zaku malfunctioned so he couldn't partake in the mission to steal the Gundam, meaning that he didn't ruin the operation's surprise element: this had a huge butterfly effect that led to Char actually stealing the RX-78-02 and using it against the Federation.
Considering that there are Zaku police ms in Gquux, it's highly possible that Zeon won the one year war, or at least didn't dissolve into the Remnants and Axis.
This leads to my personal theory that Machu, the protagonist, is actually Haman Karn. They share the same birthday after all

Ok cool... Still don't like the emphasis the series has on Char, even if it's canonically sound. Make it so it takes many years after the one year war and the characters are a new generation being raised under the Zeon rule, and the user of the Red Gundam being related to Char in some way (maybe even a direct descendant). I just really don't like the ideia of literally using the same Char from the original series, if it's an AU, then change everyone's characters for their counter-parts, like Machu being Haman Karn, make Char into someone else entierly, and I really hope that's the case in the series like if he has to take off his helmet I hope it's someone else, like someone living the legend of Char to spook the other soldiers into complacency.

You know how obsessed with Char Sunrise is, after all he's in the trailer with his Origin design, he did apparently disappear though.
If my hunch is right this could easily become the biggest Zeon-wank in the series aside from Stardust Memory and Igloo: It's probably set in UC 81, and it could be be AU retelling of Char's deleted Affair
