When I first started getting into forums in 2011, this MLP shit was EVERYWHERE. Everyone had a specific pony as their avatar and knew a ton about them. They knew every episode of the show, and could rattle off unique trivia at a moment’s notice. They all read Equestria Daily, and were very up-to-date on the latest memes and gossip. I even remember people arranging huge online “watch parties” to catch the finale of season 2. My teenaged self couldn’t believe what a phenomenon this was.

I only ever watched one episode of the show on Synctube (remember that?) where they go to a diamond mine or something and get harassed by some dogs. I did not get it at all and never had any interest in digging into the culture further. I did watch through all the PONY.MOV episodes, though — I’d already been a huge follower of Max G. from his Newgrounds days. (I actually remember hearing about when APPLES.MOV first blew up on his podcast.) Those were great!

To any bronies who were active at the time: Was there a specific moment where you felt it was over? I had an internet friend who went to go see the movie IN THEATERS, but even that seemed waaaay too late for it to matter.

I found it funny that they're named after a Bowie song.

I think I've also watched them but to be honest I'm not a big fan of raunchy parodies of kid shows.
