It won't be long until Sony does the same. Get those pre-orders in for games like Ghost of Yotei if you want to save $10.

Xbox raises prices on games, consoles and controllers

I feel like the major difference here is that Nintendo games never go on sale, and that Game Pass is like 500000 times more worth it than whatever the hell garbage Nintendo is trying to sell us with their crappy online services.

The thing I hate about Nintendo's subscription service is that the classic games are only available on them. I wish they'd let you buy all of those classic games individually. I'd vastly prefer that over paying a recurring subscription fee. Then again, knowing Nintendo, they'd charge $30+ for a Gamecube game.

Well, colour me... not surprised. Everyone is saying this is just Nintendo's fault but I think the inflation is the biggest issue here - and the endless greed of ALL companies. Yes, games are too expensive but I think it's not necessary to buy every "big" game anyways on release, because a huge part of them are waste of time and money in the end. I have a HUGE backlog already, and this increase of prices will make me scrutinize closer every purchase I'll make from now on. I am talking about Switch (1-2) and PC (Steam/GoG) mostly, because I abandoned Sony and Microsoft ages ago. The thing is.. people don't necessarily "vote" with their wallets against this price increase; just throw them a 100+$ "AAA" game like the almighty GTA VI and everything will be forgotten, because if you really want a game, you just don't care how much it will cost... that's the truth. And no, I am not an exception, I have purchased and will purchase a lot of costly games just because I'm an impulsive sob. ^^; Gaming has always been an expensive hobby...

I don't think Microsoft is following Nintendo, but a global trend of inflation above people's income.

That said, I'm less and less interested in new hardware since the PS5 launch. Ok, I got one in a very good price, but I had more fun playing on retro handhelds and on my old hardware, like PS2/3 tbh. I almost forgot about both my PS5 and Switch.

And I hate how gaming discussion on the internet turned all about THE NEXT BIG THING, old games or even games that realesed months ago are hardly discussed in favor of others that haven't a confirmed release.

The GameCube will probably be on the $60 subscription, then again at least that's the yearly fee. But still, that's absolutely not worth it at all. And also, I don't mean to be excusing what XBox is doing with my original message. Fuck all these shitty companies, I just wanted to compare so to say that at the very least XBox has an option for "budget" gamers. If you'd call a yearly subscription budget, or even a few months at that matter. All these companies suck man.

As it turns out, not buying games is really pretty easy. Let them learn this lesson too.
I doubt it'd be enough to stop people. A lot of people already pay more than $80 for the super duper mega deluxe version of games they might not even like, despite those versions often coming with $5 worth of bonuses compared to the $60 version.

Is better to wait for sales and spend the rest of the money in something more important

This generation of gaming with remasters/remakes is so weird. Unless you are playing a heavy online game, that is not free, there is little reason to buy games at release (not to mention those who have little time to play them)

But who doesn't want to pay $30 extra to play a game three days early? (I do not)

Just pirate stuff, easy as that.
And you're the problem.

Whatever helps you sleep at night.

if we dont actively boycott or state that we find these prices to be insane, these companies will keep raising. we need to stop promoting this. like the fact that resellers are currently reselling switch 2 pre orders for like 700 dollars (yes you saw that right) is absurd and it makes these companies think "if they can pay $700 for a console with (this part is only my opinion. yours could differ.) literally zero change, imagine what we can make them pay for an actual improvement."

everything is rising in prices, by the way.

Major developers are so disconnected from their fanbases. Let the consumers consume the garbage and wither away. Fortunately the time of Indie deving is now!

As long we pay 80 dollar for full game and owned it, That's not a problem.

The problem is we pay 80 dollar for rent game and mostly incomplete game with some part of it reselling as DLC.

Can't imagine what happen when MASS EFFECT 3 release on 2025 for 80 dollar and you still need extra 20 dollar for day-one dlc.

I think you mean developer bloat.
