I'm sure this'll sound absolutely blasphemous to the true Metroid fans, but Other M is the only game in the series I've played. I remember enjoying it, though it has been like 10+ years since I last touched it. I thought it used pretty good use of a single Wiimote set-up, with you pointing at the screen to switch to first person aiming.Time for slightly controversial opinions. First off, Metroid Fusion is almost as good as Super Metroid. I think the complaints about the more linear structure were way overblown. There was still plenty of exploration. It made me dislike the term metroidvania, because it reinforces the idea that "true" Metroid games have to be open-ended.
And on that note, Metroid Other M is surprisingly a pretty good game. I avoided it for 15 years because the fanbase absolutely despises it. I regret believing them. The gameplay is fun, the atmosphere is great, and a linear Metroid is NOT a bad thing. Forcing you to stand still in first-person to fire missiles introduces a neat risk/reward system. Could do without the pixel searching sections though.
As for the much detested story, it's passable. Certainly not great, but I think people overreacted. They hated the idea of Samus having emotions, being anything but a badass bounty hunter that took orders from nobody. It could have been executed better but I appreciate wanting to give Samus a little depth.
Oh yeah, requiring authorization to use your Varia Suit when you're burning to death was dumb. However! Did stupid logic irreparably damage my experience? Of course not. The game's solid.
I'm playing a hack of Zero Mission called Metroid Z and so far I'm really enjoying it.Im playing zero mission
I agree, it's definitely not the best but it's not a bad game either.Metroid Other M is surprisingly a pretty good game.
You have to give the rest of the series a try!I'm sure this'll sound absolutely blasphemous to the true Metroid fans, but Other M is the only game in the series I've played. That makes sense to me! I think the main barrier to enjoying Other M is whether you can accept its very different take on the franchise. An outsider to the series wouldn't have those expectations of what Metroid should be.I'm sure this'll sound absolutely blasphemous to the true Metroid fans, but Other M is the only game in the series I've played. If you're looking to try more of the series; I'd recommend Super Metroid and Zero Mission personally. Those to me are probably the best overall experiences someone can have with this series, as well as just being genuinely great games in their own right.I'm sure this'll sound absolutely blasphemous to the true Metroid fans, but Other M is the only game in the series I've played. What is it about?I'm playing a hack of Zero Mission called Metroid Z and so far I'm really enjoying it.
Once I'm done I'll post what I thought about it.
It's basically more Zero Mission but with a heavy inspiration on Super Metroid, you can feel that in basically everything. What is it about?
Starting with the best, good choiceI'm sure I'd like the 2D Metroids, considering Symphony of The Night is one of my favourite games. Just haven't got around to them yet, too many games in the backlog. I'd probably start with Super Metroid.
Eh I like hint statuesNo hint statues and the map design is a lot more open than the original.
