Metal Slug Board Game Announced

The company making it doesn't ring any bells, looking at it, it seems they are those who like to do the expensive shit like fancy player mats, and its obvious it will have minis.

My prediction is that its gonna be pretty expensive, and they will likely play up the FOMO to get people to buy it.

Until I see gameplay and player count, I don't expect much from it.

There is no standard pricing in board gaming, so the sky is the limit. They might even make a deluxe edition as well.

Anything but Metal Slug 8 I suppose. I know this is expensive. Hopefully this wasn't the "game" they were talking about in that 30th anniversary video.

Honestly I'm always super dubious whenever I see these board games adaptations of video games. Often the mechanics of a video game do not translate well to a tabletop setting, unless those mechanics where already pretty close to tabletop mechanics.

Both the Resi 2 and Dark Souls board games spring to mind. With two action games it was super hard to actually churn out turn-based mechanics that still felt like they were inspired by the game without just coming across as annoying and frustrating.

Unless they've made the next IMPACT, I can only imagine this being more of the same.

All fans want is a Metal Slug game with the classic gameplay and tons of extra content and playable characters

But this is unusual for an anniversary idea. Fans will buy it, but newcomers.... not much

This is like Splinter Cell fans waiting for a new game.
Only to get an anime instead!

It ain't the worst news, but we've been dry for a while.

Well... i guess they are competing with D&D??????.....
They are completely different things.

I'm intrigued by video game adaptations in boardgame world. They can probably make a real good Metal Slug Tactics boardgame but I dont think mainline formula will translate well into a turn-based experience.

Maybe the next Metal Slug video game will be a digitalized version of this boardgame?

I wish they would just start making new entries to the series. they're half hour long, 6 level arcade shooters. a small team could easily make like 3 a year for god sake.

I mean this could be fun, but I don't understand what they're doing with this IP. The tactics game was a cool idea for a spin-off, haven't tried it yet but it's in my backlog. But other than that the series has been in mobile game purgatory for more than a decade... so why a board game now? I only hope if the AES+ sells well they'll take it as a sign to bring out a new run-and-gun entry

so why a board game now?
Perhaps the company’s owners (or IP holders) have realized that tabletop/board games are no longer just a niche hobby for satanist geeks, as they were in the 80s, but a trendy fad for “normies”. Which means they need to cash in fast before the trend fades.
