Recent Devil Summoner Remaster got me thinking... "What if MAKEN X!?"
Big "What if", though, ain't it?
Wanted to pick the brains of the Atlus fans;

What do y'all think is better

The OG Sega FPS (First-Person-Slicer)

or

The Ps2 Reworking 3rd-person action slasher?

Personally I like the original Maken X a bit more just because the idea was so original, ofc they could improve a little bit on some points but I think the first person gameplay was what made it unique and Shao kinda lost that

Maken Shao for me, it appeals to my tastes more, and third person perspective is more comfortable for me to play. Sometimes FPS makes me motion sick.
I have to agree that Maken X was original, though.

That would be great actually, I think an option to switch between both cameras would make it appeal to more people

Someone need to make that romhack tbh. Switch between FPP and TPP on the switch of a button like The Evil Within 2

It would be very cool but probably very difficult to implement, since the dreamcast version wasn't made to be played with a third person camera, and shao wasn't made to be played in first person too, but i'd love to see someone try

Maybe Atlus should re-release the game for modern audiences, but mostly unchanged aside from the feature you guys mention.

Yeah, sounds good, but also very unlikely if start thinking from a corporate POV. Because aside from the niche retro crowd, not many people may even know what Maken shao/X is, so pouring resources into it to port it to modern platform (let alone combining two different versions of it) seems impossible, but never say never i guess (after all, Bullet Witch got saved from the xbox 360 exclusivity jail).

Didn't know about the existence of Bullet Witch.
Some obscure titles get ported or remastered out of nowhere.
Though, as you already know, Atlus is focusing on the more recent installments in the franchise (>2006).
There have been pleas for them to remake or port Persona 1 and 2 to PC, but I don't know if they will ever do that. Besides, the fanbase has changed a lot in the past 10-15 years and people would probably find the early Personas a bit strange.
Maken is likely more accessible, as it's a game you can pick up and play. But yes, it's niche, being a spin-off of a larger series.

I actually discovered SMT through DemiKids on the GBA, but I have to revisit them. I was just a kid and even then I noticed that DemiKids had a darker atmosphere compared to other RPGs. It was a bit scary.
At the time there were barely any SMT games translated, though years later Imagine was released in the West... sadly I never got to play it, but it's another game that has Kaneko's artwork.
My best friend had lots of fun with Imagine, it's one of the few MMORPGs he got into.

Both versions are very flawed but the potential was there. I prefer third-person but Shao is not a balanced game at all and the translation was pretty bad (noticeably worse than X's). You can tell that Atlus was not used to making action games, much less in 3D. There are some cool ideas related to the story, but not well-exploited. This is a game that would need to be remade from the ground up IMO.
