Today marks 30 years since this oddity launched in Japan, as one of the later games on the 3DO. Its most notable trait is managing to be the only Eastern RPG to get to North America (all others are classified as Western RPGs, even the Japanese-developed Guardian War), where it had a very limited release and today is one of the most prized games on the system.

I played through the game back in late July to September 2024, and did fine with it. However, as obscure as it is, I wanted to go back and make an individual video dedicated to it, to give myself some closure.

Here it is. Hope it's okay.

I like Lucienne's Quest. I beat it maybe 8-10 years ago and while the 3D background and cameras look crazy, it's a fun, well-paced old-school RPG. Micro Cabin was an underrated company from the same computer scene that gave us Falcom, unfortunately it didn't survive. I think it's really cool that the 3DO someone got its exclusive Japanese RPG in the West. Can't say the same for the Jaguar, 32X or CD-i.

As an aside, Guardian War is not a Western RPG in any kind of way, it's just barely a RPG at all. Basically it's made up of separate levels where you walk around a field and trigger small SRPG battles. No towns, essentially no story and characters. Blazing Heroes / Mystara on the Saturn uses some of the same gameplay elements in battle, but it has the towns, story and characters to go with it, so it's a lot better.
