Hey everyone! How's your day going? Due to my job, I don't have much time to play games anymore, but I try to squeeze in about 30-40 minutes each day. The challenge is that I can stick to this routine for a week, but then I fall off and forget the story and my next objectives. I'm looking for games that I can play daily without losing track of the plot, so that when I pick them up again, I can jump right back in without any issues. Any recommendations? I can emulate upto PS2.
Edit: Most of my life I've played rpgs but I am open to other genres as well. Recommend me something what you would play in this situation.

Not sure where your interest lie but the entire gimmick of Animal Crossing is that it emulates a daily routine with its usage of a real time clock. I recently downloaded it, and it uses whatever time the device you're playing it on has. It's kind of brilliant, I was genuinely surprised.

What kind of games are you into? Something like a racing game would be really easy to pick right back up, or arcade games. But are you looking for an RPG?
rpg would be absolutely awesome. are there anyhting which can satisfy my conditions though? yes racing game is fine. I think I shouldve mentioned my likings first .

I can try animal crossing. Thanks for the recc. On which console do you think its the best?

this may be an odd recommendation, but i find lighter titles in general are great for unwinding during shorter periods at the end of a day, titles like virtual casino on the sega saturn for example
well you have really summed up my situation, ill try virtual casino. thanks

I've been playing super Mario world hacks lately. They're usually pretty good for picking up and playing for a bit then putting down. Pokemon games are usually pretty decent to play in bite sized chunks as well as far as rpgs go. Roguelikes are also pretty fun in bite sized chunks as well. I like Nethack. It gets pretty addicting once you start figuring stuff out.

The first fallout is great for this. Basically anything that allows you to quick save and quick load at will. You can spend like 20 minutes gaming out a difficult encounter then be on your way

honestly, the recommendation of animal crossing is kind of perfect? there's similar stuff like harvest moon, but animal crossing is more laid back about things.

ive never seen the first fallout tho. ill definitely try it. thx for the recc

I haven't played many of the newer ones but from what I remember of the old ones there's basically one way to go at any given time. You just keep walking down the road until you get to the next town.

I wanna just say Balatro cause it's the one game I've been playing before bed every day. And Doom. You can play a stage or two in one go and dont have to worry about forgetting anything for the next level next time you pick it up. Doom runs on literally anything you have, too!

Tetris and Lumines are both awesome. I would recommend Apotris for Tetris, Lumines Remastered is gorgeous but standard Lumines on PSP is also great looking.

Animal Crossing for GCN, Animal Crossing: New Leaf for 3DS or the newest one for Switch.

Depending on whether or not the artstyle is your thing, Fantasy Life on the 3DS or Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Stole Time on all modern consoles.

Back when I was in a similar boat, I played mostly arcade games through MAME. Most of them are designed for quick burst sessions of play, and slowly learning them bit by bit with each playthrough was great fun.

A literal digital stress ball, have fun destroying cities, you decide how difficult you want it to be:

I'm guessing you're using a mobile, yeah?

Peeps already said Animal Crossing, I find that's 100% on point.

If you can emulate/find a DS/3DS, I'd say you'd be set with really any puzzle game on either.
Those devices were great fro "pickup-and-play" titles.
  • Meteos
  • Tetris DS
  • Bust-a-Move SD
  • Zoo keeper
  • Puyo Pop Fever
  • Planet Puzzle League
  • Picross DS
  • 3d Picross
These are all great for 30-40 min sessions and are all really fun.

"Gachas" is your answer.
ive played some of the gachas on android, I think one of my best was Guardian tales? I maybe saying the name wrong. But I dont like to go into gachas for now. But recommend me good gachas if you know that can run on old devices.

my monkey brain got so much dopamine just by looking at the trailer. looks like hell of a fun game. Ill absolutely try it. I'm scared that my laptop cant handle it in a sense that it will run the game but in turn will get heated very much. I really hope it doesnt do that. Thanks for your recc
