Life-changing decision?

I'm older than most people here it seems, but getting married, and to be honest - best decision I made. I lost a lot of myself, but looking back gained a lot more too, and what I lost wasn't all good. I am aware it's not always like this.

My biggest 'Sliding Doors' (it's a film, look it up) moment that I'm aware of though that I sometimes regret is that I had a teenage band that we packed in because we were all going to uni. Turned out (I was told later) we were about to get management, and we were pretty decent - could have at least had some fun stories of being nearly famous I think, even if it hadn't actually gone anywhere. I kind of wish I'd at least given that a good shot so I wasn't living a 'what if' in my head on that front. My advice really is that you have time, don't be in a rush to make the grown up decisions unless life really forces them on you.

That's the thing I think I miss in my life, fun side quests that give you the ability to randomly say, "hey, I did this weird, crazy thing that nobody would expect me to do when I was x years old." For example, you were in a band. Now, sure, it was a big missed opportunity that you couldn't continue it and fully embrace that type of life, but you nonetheless dared enough to create something, to do something that you did purely because you wanted to, and you thought it would be fun. Like going on an adventure, because that's what it was, isn't it? And that's exactly what I didn't do when I was young, I didn't create anything that I could look back on and smile at how amazing it was, I didn't join a band/group and do something that could make us stand out, I didn't go on that many school trips as I thought my classmates were too stupid to hangout with or that they didn't share my way of thinking (which I now laugh at because of how stupid I was).

It's just, I think I wasted a lot of my youth looking at what I should be doing instead of doing whatever I was allowed to do, aka, having fun without thinking too much about the how and why. I guess I missed out on a lot of your average person's memory-making times. I regret that a lot, and I think that's part of the reason I am striving more nowadays to make more memories and better memories than I could ever have done when I was younger. It's a regret that I have learned from, and I think many should think about when they are young. To focus on making memories instead of stupid things that don't really matter at the end of the day.

I quit narcotics in 2021. Previously to that i was on the streets homeless and mingling with very dicey people who were hooked on stuff far harder than what i was. Im glad i don't keep that company any more i feel sorry for people gripped by various narcotics but it would not serve me very well to go back to that life.

I'm trying to stop drinking but it's hard. I went two months sober then relapsed, got drunk four times, felt ashamed of myself and had to start all over. Three weeks sober now.

Good on you for trying im still in that battle. Have massive respect for anyone even if its 24 hours under their belt.

For me, the more recent realisation is that yes, you have more responsibilities now, but actually it is never too late to start making memories. Find things, and people you love and start mixing them, you don't have to be young.
