Hi!
After only *checks calendar* eight months, another Mega Man comic book thread is here! This time I'm gonna be looking through Dreamwave Productions' Mega Man comic series, which got unfortunately canceled after only four issues due to the company going under.
This thread will be the opposite of my Archie Mega Man thread. While that thread was me reading a Mega Man comic book for the first time and hating it, this one will be about me rereading a Mega Man comic book that I enjoy.
With that out of the way, let's get it started now!

Fun Fact: Mic Fong is the artist for Mega Man Legends Timelines #1.
Significantly Less Fun Fact: Pat Lee/Michiyamenotehi Funana is an asshole.

Our story begins the way all teen superhero stories do: with the protagonist being a little bitch about school.

The first thing you'll notice is that Rock* is a little older here. You'll see the reason for that later. Also, in this universe Dr. Light decides not to wait until the end of his natural lifespan to make a robot with an innovative new ability to think, feel, and make their own decisions.
* Well, he's Rocky here, but I'm gonna call him Rock anyway.

I appreciate how Brian Augustyn (the writer) gave an actual reason for Rock to go to school beyond making him more relatable for the intended audience of tween-teen boys.
And Auto is here, too. Ugh. Thankfully he's not too obtrusive here.

Ah shit, here we go again.
Another change is that Rock transforms into Mega Man via a watch like some kind of bootleg Ben 10.

Also, Rock can fly.
Rush? Who needs him anyway?

As you can see, Rock as Mega Man is quite popular in Mega City, especially among teen girls.
I like Rock being self-aware about the fact he's angsting and stopping before he could get annoying with it. Ian Flynn would never.

Silly Rock, thinking he can go splat when he's a robot.

That's what she said~

Rock saves the day and, most importantly, the Light™ Perfected™ Traffic™ Control™ System™. This won't save him from going to school, however.

Here we see the first of this comic book's school story staples: Da Bullies™, also known as the Boltz Brothers. Their role is to bully Rock and not look similar to each other despite supposedly being brothers. I can never remember their names, so I'll just call them Guts Clone, Buckteeth, and Green.

As much as I like Mic Fong's art, I don't like how none of the original robot characters look like they belong in Mega Man. But then again, Yoshihiro Iwamoto had the same problem, so I won't hold it against him.

Now we're introduced to another school story cliché: Da Best Friend™, also known as Alan. Despite my snark, I think he's a good character. Also, he mentions him and Rock being in seventh grade, meaning that they're both 12-13 years old.

Foodfight!
It's strangely comforting to know that even in the universe with self-aware robots and flying cars, school cafeteria food still sucks.
Post automatically merged:

Don't worry, Alan. Even if they try, they won't succeed thanks to Rock's plot armor and him being a super-powered robot.
Post automatically merged:

Damn, Alan, you're one glory-seeking son of a gun. You're lucky you're so likable.
Anyway, we're now introduced to the most classic of school story character archetypes: Da Crush™, also known as Chelsea. Her existence is the most likely reason Rock is a tween here since 10-year-old boys aren't known for their interest in romance. She's actually my favorite character to come out of this comic book.

FUCK 'EM UP, CHELSEA!
I like to think that Chelsea beat the shit out of them in the past, and that's why Guts Clone is talking to her like this.

go away auto
I just realized that Rock somehow knows Alan's name despite the latter never telling him that.

This is just like MMBN1's DenTown scenario!
I really hate the DenTown scenario.

Expressman somehow reminds me of Siarnaq. It must be the head.

Our first glimpse of Blues! And he's rocking a snazzy cape ala Bass.EXE.
That's it for the first issue! See you next time.
