I’ve wanted to start this for a while but the opportunity always escapes. I’ve got stuff in the works right now so this may be a good opportunity to start a thread like this.

This is mainly a thread to give people a place to ask and answer questions related to language learning, help people trying to learn, seek advice from native speakers, provide learning materials, document your progress, etc! You may also converse in your target language, if you so desire.

I can provide English VC calls to anyone who seeks them. Let me know, and I can dm you my discord username.

I can also provide English or Arabic lessons. I can communicate in three languages, including conversational Spanish.

If you’d like, there’s also a Discord server. Please inform me if you’re interested in joining and I will privately link you the invite, thanks for reading.

So... how does this work? Someone posts something here in, say, French, and if someone is able, they reply to that, in that same language? ::thinking

You can do that! But otherwise, there’s no system! This is just meant to form a small learning community, ask questions, provide learning material, give tips, etc. I’ll modify my original comment since it probably seemed too specific.

Edit: done 👍

I wish I had people I could speak english with via voice chat. I know I pass as an english speaker via text, but when it comes to actually talking I struggle a lot.

Which reminds me once again this is something I could train by myself by reading stuff out loud, recording it and see where I made mistakes. I should do it more.

Are you a discord user? I’m willing to provide VC calls in English via discord if you so desire. We can converse about any desired topics that can further your language learning goals. (Same goes to anyone here)

My discord nickname is the same as my forum nickname, feel free to add. ::dkapproves

If anyone else's gonna add me and have different usernames over discord, please state it so here so I know I'm adding you and not a random person.

A group chat between RGT users could be fun... ::thinking

This just reminded me that I'm going to have actually put some effort into learning German one of these days, instead of this lazy barely trying casual thing I've been doing for the past decade.

Cool thread! Now, what to post...

Uh...

Oh! Back when I was considering becoming a translator, I took an English proficiency test and got a B2 level. Since I needed at least a C1 for the translator job, I promptly abandoned that ambition.

I can speak some Hindi and Urdu, if that interests anyone.

My Discord username is mr.kokopudgefudge, different from here on RGT.

This is a cool thing you set up here @Yousef! Haven't seen you around good to see you back. I would love to help out should anyone want to practice their english with a grouchy old bastard :)

I'm grouchy but patient, :)

Did you mean A1 instead of C1? Because i'm pretty sure that at least on Japanese proficiency tests B is a higher level of language proficiency than C.

I'm using the CEFR system, which works differently.

The discord is being setup. I’ll send a private link to those interested. Will take me some minutes, I got other stuff atm

Thanks for the warm welcome! Nice to see you again too!

Feel free to ask questions, I'm a native speaker

The discord is setup and ready to be linked. While I wouldn’t wanna leave the link public, you can feel free to dm me about it and I’ll get back as soon as possible

I'm trying to learn Japanese so I can see entertainment media that never left Japan (games, movies, manga, etc.)

I'm interested, send me the link. Pardon me, but I don't know how to DM you on this site.

Hmm... Interesting. I've always wondered what this curious english expression, which I often see repeated here and there, means: "morning wood".
Can someone explain it to me? I guess it's the wood that is collected first thing in the morning, before lighting the fireplace. Am I right? Is there a deep connoisseur of this infamous morning wood here? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Interesting coincidence that I'm (trying to) relearn my Arabic recently. I could use the help from this thread. Thanks.

I’ll wait a bit to gauge what the thread is like.

Awesome to hear!

I'm a German native and my written English proficiency is C1/C2. I have VERY basic Spanish knowledge, as in I know a few words and the most common grammar stuff. I got an F in my French classes and I'm currently trying to learn Korean.

So if anyone here knows where to watch Korean media, for example TV shows, animations or dubs, please do tell. I know there's a bunch of kids stuff, and a few anime's have been dubbed, but all the official sites are region blocked.

Anyways, great idea for a thread.

I had to take French classes all throughout elementary and high school, but I don't know shit about that language still and maybe only know a few words here and there; bonjour, poutine, and that's about it. I think me and languages other than English just aren't meant to be, and even then me and English are at odds sometimes.

I'd be down if anyone has any questions or whatever about English, like many other native speakers here on the forums. Something I've been considering doing is maybe offering article proofreading here on the site for anyone who'd want it, just for grammar and such.

A RGT voice chat could be interesting, but time zone differences would probably make it hard for me to join. That, and I don't want to subject the nice people of RGT to my apparently incredibly thick Canadian accent.

cool to hear! The server is setup with three people already so it’s gonna be fun seeing what activity this attracts. As previously stated, anyone’s welcome to message me for a link. Ill also contract a mod to edit my original message since unfortunately the edit time ran out haha.
