This is an abandoned prototype and is NOT a full game. It is highly incomplete and was released as a historical curiosity.

This build was the initial test for a Killer Instinct port on the N64 before the project was pivoted to Mortal Kombat.

test on hardware :

So was this, like, the version they were working on before Gold, y'think? I mean, KI was repping the N64 since it was still gestating in the womb, so I'm surprised they never just made a straight up port of either arcade game.

I have to admit, while I understand that this is for the sake of history and nothing more, I find this release pretty pointless. I mean, it's not like Primal Rage 2, where that game just doesn't exist (I know about Galloping Ghost and MameRage, the game still never properly came out) there are official versions of KI 1 & 2 you can play that aren't necessarily Gold (mostly fine tuned versions of Mame designed to play them).

Still, I ended archiving all the versions of "Look Outside", so what am I complaining about?

Killer Instinct for the Ultra 64 WAS real after all! This is an awesome find!

KI Gold doesn't look nearly as good as KI Arcade, but then again Rare were probably just doing the best they could within the limits of the N64

ONLY ON NINTENDO ULTRA 64
That machine was at the local movie theater and it would loudly proclaim this in attract mode

Definitely remember hearing the announcer yelling over most other games at the local arcade. It was so friggin loud haha

Killer Instinct deserves to be the 2nd big Western Fighting Game series. Shame what happened to it

Yup . While the Xbone game is kinda cool on its own , it still looks rather bland and misses that blasting oomph that the first 2 games had . Those games were even more alive and cooler than the last one which tge console ports are more appealing than the xbone one. Rare had that special sauce how they made this game-series so badass .

Looks like they could have gotten closer to the arcade on that hardware with the first game than they did with KI2/Gold, honestly. I was so mad back then they cancelled bringing the first game over to the Ultra/N64, I wanted both of them! The SNES version was fine for what it was, a miraculous port, but I absolutely was going to double dip for a closer to arcade presentation
