So uh... I haven't seen this topic touched upon in a fat minute, and google searches don't help.
Anybody happen to know a genuine fix for the slow issues with Kega? I'm no tech wizard, but maybe somebody here could dig around in it and try to figure out why some games play so slow on it on modern systems? I tried playing Pulseman and the game is much slower than it is supposed to be... I also tried playing some gamegear games and those are really slow too. No idea what is causing it, I've tried everything old threads suggest, as well as whatever google spits out at me.... Nothing... *shrug*

What are your hardware specs?

Kega Fusion hasn't been updated in 15 YEARS so you might wanna use just anything else
genesis plus GX, Ares, PicoDrive, and BlastEm are still being updated

but funny enough i do use Kega fusion myself, or Gens (so old lol)
makes me wonder if i should try something newer lol
windows 10, gtx1050, 8gb ram, intel i5 8th gen, dell laptop

tested sonic 3 and knuckles, including going to Super sonic, which makes you very fast, no drops in fps just 60, tested turbo outrun, contra hard corps, both are 60fps everywhere
my v-sync is on, if i shut if off it tears like crazy on sonic 3 anyways.
and i can fast-forward to 999 fps (and i don't see a way to fast-forward less lol)

also check the region settings, try setting US or japan, europe/PAL is 50fps at max
check if the roms aren't europe region (it'll be 50 fps at max you'll know immediately)

i'm using Kega fusion version 3.64
here's stuff i found trying to google the issues:
Rightclick KEGA and click Properties, then go to Compatibility. Change the Compatibility Mode to Window XP (servicePack 3)
Some settings to try in the config file:
ForceCompatibleGFX=0
CompatibleGFXOpt=0
EnhancedGFXOpt=0
ForceFullScreen32=1
VistaAeroIgnore=1
VistaNoWndVSync=1
DebugFlags=0,0,2,2

Under options make sure both "High Priority" and "Alternate Timing" are enabled.
On Windows 8.0 and later, an incompatibility issue (related to DirectDraw support in these operating systems being further deprecated) causes the emulator to drop frames or freeze entirely in the case of Windows 10 and later, when attempting to switch to full-screen mode. However, this can be easily fixed by right-clicking on Fusion.exe > Properties > Compatibility > check "Disable Fullscreen Optimizations.
if you want up to date emulators check this site:

Kega hasn't progressed since 2010. That's 15 years ago. In technology terms, people were still using flip phones back then. Your PC has with all the updates. There's bound to be incompatible issues with the program.

I'm still using it, and haven't faced any problem so far, except being too fast when i use fast forward!
But i never heard of it being slow...

By the way, which version of it you are using?
I'm using version 3.64.

The only options that i can think that can cause slowdown are these:
  • Log AVI File (you shouldn't use this normally)
  • V-Sync (try disabling it if it's active)
Also, please open Task manager, and check the percentage of your CPU's activity, both when it's open and when it's closed.
One possibility is that another program is eating up your CPU power.
