Katekyo Hitman REBORN!

When Ppl ask what my favorite WSJ Battle Shonen is have my favorites like HunterXHunter, One Piece and Houshin Engi but my N1 favorite gotta be Katekyo Hitman REBORN!. I know this series doesn't have the best story/characters and the best worldbuilding from Shonen Jump but i still really love it. When i first saw a picture of Tsuna with the X Gloves and the Dying Will Flame in its head i thought that was coolest thing in the world back then and i had to check this out and man i really had fun with KHR, the characters were charming, the battles and the power system was very creative when you remember that the series was just a Gag manga in the beginning and the whole art and aesthetic of it being so colorful also helped. Back when it ended in 2012, i didn't like the ending at all but lately i thought it was fine because at the end of the day all that really matters is the journey.

I really like it, i watched it after it finished airing, way back when i was first figuring out how to watch subbed anime, it will always have a special place in my heart, its not amazing nor does it have the hypests fights, KHR is silly and it knows it, but its creative and it does have its moments, it is great, but i do admit is an acquired taste.

Its hard to recommend due to the first arc being a gag anime, the amount of times i had to tell my friends "Wait for the Varia arc, it gets good, trust me, trust the plan."

It didn't properly end, it was cancelled, which is a shame, but at least, i can say that i do like it for what it does.

GOD I LOVE KATEKYOU HITTO MAN REBOOOORNNN! Boys and Girls and 88 by LM.C are some of my favourite anime openings ever. I have the majority of this manga in English on my shelf (though funnily enough not Volume 1). I actually really love that the first part of it is a gag manga, it kinda reminds me of how Muv-Luv's first act is basically a gag manga before going into crazy alien mecha stuff.

I remember reading a little bit of it probably 15 years ago, and I'm actually just now getting back around to it and plan to finish it this time. I've been having fun with reading it. Gokudera is my favorite of the bunch.

Checking back in after reading nearly 300 chapters of Reborn. I can say I like the core cast and the art quite a bit, but the thing that really keeps Katekyo Hitman Reborn from going from "good" to "great" is the pacing, especially both at the beginning of the manga and again after the battle with the Varia faction. The future arc feels like it takes so long for things to happen, and probably a good 20% of it is just training/learning new abilities; not quite Dragon Ball or Kenichi levels of training subplot waffling, but it was enough to make me only read it in 1 or 2 book bursts, and then go re-read something else (sometimes in entirety) before coming back to Reborn. I still like it in short bursts, and plan on finishing it soon, but compared to a lot of other battle manga, it feels like there is too much padding before the eventual climaxes of each story saga. I still do like Gokudera's character and the Vongola vs Varia showdown, those are the highlights of the manga for me.
