Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) is a space opera RPG created and developed by BioWare, which have seen releases on the original Xbox, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, OS X, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, IOS, Android and Nintendo Switch. Takes place in the fictional universe of Star Wars by George Lucas.

If you haven't played this one i highly recommend it before you get too old or you lose your sight, this one is 100% MUST PLAY for anyone that loves gaming and appreciates a masterpiece.

Funny story that a neighbor was moving out many years back and gave me a box with some old games and controllers, most of them in a bad condition when i saw this game I've said to myself: Oh a Star Wars game i should give it a try.

Boom then i was hooked the first thought that popped in my mind was: I hope it last's long this is a gem.

The game's system is based on Wizards of the Coast's Star Wars Roleplaying Game, which is based on the d20 role-playing game system derived from the Third Edition Dungeons & Dragons rules. Combat is round-based time is divided into discrete rounds, and combatants attack and react simultaneously.

 
Played it chose to be a female scoundrel and went on leaning towards the dark force, fun stuff.?
 
The first sign that I’m gonna go full dark force in this game is when I decided to kill an NPC after I extorted some money on ‘em.
 
I recall having the distinct feeling Jade Empire and KOTOR used the same engine; To me it had the same feel, graphical interface and many other implemented parts too, i'd wager probably same writers and artists too.

the vibes are not the same, Jade Empire good game but KOTOR changing planets was peak. If you play both games in the optimal Sound and Video settings you will understand what i am trying to say.

Maybe it's my 20 year memory... And I didn't know you could increase the video settings in either game, then again i played them on the original Xbox... I'm not talking about PC ports.

The games themselves are different yet the same. Light side, dark side, Open fist, closed fist, semi-turned based combat, the way things just looked... Meh i guess you either see it or you don't.
 
My brother played it on Pc when i was still a kid. Recently i bought the bundle on switch for 6 euros. I really like it, i'm more a Japanese rpg than american but i still liked it
 
Both KOTOR games are my favorite Star Wars games. Their gameplay may not be as deep as other bioware games of the era, but the story, characters and huge amount of options and interactions more than make up for it. I remember reloading saves often just to see where other dialogue options would lead!
 
I should probably give these another shot.
 
The absolute rat shit you can do in Kotor to people is untapped. I got into a saber battle on Dantooine and just couldn't break through his defense, so I switch to Canderous and let a thermal detonator loose and it one shots the jedi. I love both of those games.

can you get the cut content restoration mod working on emulator or is that pc only as well?
As I recall, that one crashes the game on the Xbox, but there are quite a few mods that can be run on a modded Xbox, like the start with a lightsaber mod and some of the additional armor mods.

Although starting with KOTOR bioware started to move more on to consoles, I still think all the games they made in that era play better on PC.
 
bought both 1 and 2 for my series x when they were on sale for roughly 4€... unfortunately they suffer the same fate like many other games in my library, sitting in the backlog limbo lol.

but i'll get to them one day when I feel doing a star wars themed playthrough of games.
 
We used to get so much good star wars content. Its crazy how EA having the rights to making the games and Disney buying the franchise turned out you wouldn't have thought it to go the way it has at those times when things were set into motion.
Only genuinely good things that Disney has directly done with star wars is Andor and the First 2 seasons of Mandalorian

KOTOR used the Odyssey engine which came from the Aurora engine, which is what Jade Empire used. So very similar. BioWare used exclusively that whole series of engines for their fantasy games up until I think Inquisition which was EA Frostbite; the first Dragon Age was done with Eclipse which came from Odyssey. They didn't have the same writers or designers, but most of the other staff was probably the same given they were pretty close to one another release date wise.
Edit: Frostbite, not Snowblind; that was something completely different.

Mhmm.. I just remember playing both on the original Xbox and just the irking feeling like it was the same game experience but a different coat of paint. Glad to see some confirmation on that.

And it's not a surprise, if you made a successful game with said engine, you'll already be familiar and it's best to reuse the same engine as much as possible until you have to change. Or you are a big enough you don't feel the limitations of said engine are worth it anymore.

That was more or less their thinking from what I've gathered about it; they used their self developed Infinity Engine for as long as they could until they had to make the jump to 3d, which is when the Aurora engine was developed. Back in the day in-house proprietary engines were how almost everything was done, and if you were licensing someone else engine there was more than just the 3 or 4 big ones you see everywhere today.
