Anyone beside me a fan of the Exile or Overrun games? They are so old school and retro yet modern and the idea or theme of them is amazing. basically a prison world exists underground with different races a king a castle etc and ur a prisoner sent from the surface world down there.

Yeah, there's some nice stuff in these games. They are generally open world with some cool build variety and tons of interesting content. Geneforge is probably my favorite series here, if you haven't given them a try. So many remakes, and the basic mechanics can change quite a bit between them.

Jeff loves his crappy gfx!

DUDE I'VE BEEN PLAYING THE EXILE SERIES SINCE THE 90s ON MY MAC (MacAddict discs had all of them). They used to have the original Mac versions of all 3 plus the expansion for free on their site. I can still get them on Internet Archive now, but back in the 2010s it was on their site. Since then they rebooted it a bunch of times and even kept making sequels. I think it's called Avernum or something.

Team Geneforge forever! Genuinely, Spiderweb has made some of my favorite RPGs ever, and I can't help but admire how they've been going at it since the 90's, and they haven't changed very much. Jeff also has a fantastic GDC talk if, highly recommended if you haven't seen it:

That's my jam. First was Exile 1, shareware on a $5 "1,000 GAMES" CD at Wal-Mart. Really enjoyed that and an old roguelike called Castle of the Winds. Nowadays I have the modern remakes of Avernum 1-3 and Geneforge 1.

well the Exile trilogy does have subtitles. The first Exile was called, "Escape The Pit". Then there was "Crystal Souls" and finally "Ruined World"
Subtitles mean nothing when Mario Kart couldn’t decide on numbers or subtitles for a while, this wouldn’t stop me from thinking that these are the same Exiles the same way an 18+ game on Steam almost fooled me into thinking it was an official Atelier game because it looked similar and had a similar naming scheme. Tags are an absolute life saver btw

Also spinoffs. Logical conclusion tends to be spinoffs, like how Disgaea also has Makai Kingdom, Phantom Brave, and Prinny as spinoffs

the first two avernum games were good it was hard for me to get into the other games of his i've tried

It's not the same. 😑 this series let's you build your own custom party. It's as western as it gets.
