Been lurking on and off on here for a while now, figured I'd finally say hello! I've been playing Video Games for over 27 years now and love to go back to older consoles to see what I missed out on when I was younger. I also have dabbled in romhacking, but have never finished a full project or anything. I'll try any type of game once, since there's so many good genres to find and find something new! However, my favorites are older JRPGs, action platformers, and adventure games.

My favorite series are Sonic the Hedgehog, Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, Metal Gear Solid, Megaman, Phantasy Star, Persona, Wonder Boy/Monster World, the Mana series, Kingdom Hearts, Etrian Odyssey, and Dynasty Warriors. Also while not a series, I really like Yume Nikki.

Looking forward to posting on here more!

Another huge fan of Asha and Madotsuki right here! Make yourself at home!

Welcome to the forum, friendo!
As a former lurker and fellow fan of several things you've mentioned, I hope you enjoy your time here!

I can detect your lurking
a video game scene with the words `` let 's take a look . ''

Welcome, it's not everyday I see a Monster World, Phantasy Star, or Etrian Odyssey enjoyer.
Speaking of the latter, obligatory Wizardry recommendation. You'll find many on here. Minus the PC Engine versions, those are easy to find though and they're mostly in English despite being JP only. Otherwise, the SNES has I-V minus IV. Maybe also try Bard's Tale. Could probably go into more detail but I'm sleepy and tomorrow is (probably) going to be the day I actually get to go back to my dorm so big day. Nighty-night, play Treasure of the Rudras or something.

I’m back and settled into my dorm. You won’t find Wizardry IV on SNES, but you will find Wizardry Gaiden IV. They aren’t the same game. Wizardry Gaiden began on the GameBoy for 3 games, pivoted to SNES for the fourth, went to PS1 for 5-7, and the final one is Five Ordeals, which can be played on Steam with Gaiden 6 and 7 as buyable DLC.

Also check out The Dark Spire for DS. It’s more unforgiving than Etrian Odyssey. Etrian Odyssey can also be considered a spiritual successor to the old (Shin) Megami Tensei games, many of which you can find here. OG Devil Summoner has famously never been translated fully and I think a separate team is working on Saturn Soul Hackers. There’s also Nine and Ronde, neither of which are particularly good, that have yet to be translated. Other than those, most of MegaTen can be played in English minus the official ports of the formerly lost media phone games G-Mode is selling. Even obscure games like Giten Megami Tensei. Speaking of, Giten isn’t for the faint of heart, it’s very gory for an SMT, sometimes lewd. The usual PC-98 shit. Strange game.

Nice! I downloaded Wizardry I-II-III for SNES and am going to try it out later today. Is that the best starting point for the Wizardry series?

Dark Spire looks like a great time, I've always wanted to try it out. I'll give it a download as well. I love me some MegaTen. I've seen screenshots of Giten before and it's right up my alley. Now that I have a PC-98 emulator set up, I should add it to my list of games to go through!

Anywhere is a good starting point, but I do hear you can transfer teams to the next, so probably yes.
