What the last guy said. I doubt they'll die so soon. It's a low point, definitely not an end. Hell, they kept 7 going for like, what, 5 years?

I think it'll get better. Games get growing pains and people get angry, it happens.

I agree with everyone on this thread. I do so this as Bamco inadvertently making way for the comeback to Virtua Fighter. If Sega is smart with 6, they'll take it to a level Bamco should have went with Tekken 5/DR as well as Tekken 6. Tekken 7 season 3 is where they started to fall off.

I don't believe it's really doomed, all these live service fighting games are too big to really fail and they have the resources to do a turn around, though this current season is definitely fucked up for now and will probably delay their next plans with it while they try to fix it up and win everyone back.
I'm out of the loop.

What doubtlessly harmless and asinine thing is the modern gaming audience outraged about this week?
They essentially fucked up the whole defensive side of the fights and turned it into nonstop loony tunes.

Aha. Well aren't all fighting games just ungabunga rushdown focused stuff now anyways? I feel like by SFIV that was already the way the tides were turning so I got out.

It can only be revived if they put lucky Chloe or Messi

No clue what you're trying to say.
Ungabunga.

What's wrong with ungabunga rushdown in fighting games? It's the same thing IRL... It's all about the ungabunga rushdown

It makes for thoughtless meta that has no delicacy or counterplay and just depends on which character has the better kit for it. Then everyone will play the same and will look the same and it'll suck like it does now but worse.

Yeah, current state of fighting games is most character being the same, it's what made me so disappointed with Guilty Gear Strive because of how this was THE series for me of freedom of expression and craziness. I already wasn't that fond of Xrd compared to +R, but Strive was the nail in the coffin lol.

Melty Blood Type Lumina and UNI 2 manage to be more to their roots and more expressive with tons of options too, but not as much as they were in the past + they are basically discord fighters by now.

Well, everything has to change lol, at least there is fightcade and ports and community versions for a lot of cool older games

You say that because you lost.

This entire argument is useless because it's based on the idea that the games are at fault here, and that rushdown is a "modern games" thing.

I think the main thing to blame here is human nature. Most people, and it isn't new, don't just want to hold down back and do nothing, and/or spam projectiles. Not every attack can be a super read/heavy mind game poke that exploits the enemy's zealousy or whatever. Any game can be built with the idea of complex, thought-provoking gameplay. But the fact of the matter is, unless you're playing on top competitive levels, there will always be a flow-chart Ken or a dude who can't stop forward jumping.

I don't think this is Tekken's fault. I don't think this is Guilty Gear's fault. Street Fighter's, Melty Blood's, FighterZ's-- none of them. This is players playing the game how they want. And, if what they want is to hold forward like a rabid animal, then that's what they'll do. This has been a thing for little brothers playing SF2 in the 90s and fully grown men playing Strive now.

I guess you could argue nowadays we have more characters who *hinge* on set-play and rushdown. But by that logic, I could make an argument in any direction. There are likely more zoners, more shotos, more grapplers. And at that point we base these off of subjective anecdotes of "today a Zangief rocked my shit, so grapplers must be a problem."
I think fighting games are supplying the same stuff they always have. Fast-paced reaction-based gameplay, character individuality, and lore so confusing you'd only care if someone made you.

Basically this.
Happened too during 7 with Armor King and Marduk update, besides there are people who still play it regularly if you look at the player count.
FGCs community are some of the hardest bunch to please I tell you, they're the type who would get mad at Blackjack if they don't get 21 on the first draw.

Maybe??? I feel like it's too big to truly become dead but after seeing a whole bunch of pro players quiting or switching games I'm not sure if it's going to recover fully. There's a lot of times where people in the FGC over react to shit but in this case I'm not sure if it is one. Haven't seen something like this since that one FighterZ patch.

Whatever happened with Kekken now is pretty mild compared to when CoTW revealed CR7 and Chadacci. USA FGC being outta the loop from the rest of the world is really nothing new.
Also reminder that SF5 still had the worst launch reception of any fighting games ever yet it survived for at least 7 years, community outrage really means jack shit when casuals would still buy them due to brand names.

I don't care for Tekken 8 until it has my wife Josie Rizal

If SF5 was able to recover from that launch, Tekken 8 can get over one bad season. Harada also is very involved with the community and already put out a statement on it.
