I have seen that the game is highly criticized (especially in the Hispanic community) and I doubt if I should play it.

Wait for a price drop and try it

It's exactly the same post-modern millennial subversive quirky indie JRPG detritus as:
  1. Undertale / Deltarune
  2. LISA
  3. OFF
  4. Yume Nikki
  5. YIIK
  6. Hylics / Hylics 2
  7. Eastward
  8. Jimmy & The Pulsating Mass
  9. Oneshot
  10. Space Funeral
  11. Probably lots more
So if you like those, you'll probably like Omori, because it's the same game. NOT THAT I'VE PLAYED IT LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

i agree with that, those were once my favorite kind of games but they got so stale those last 5 years or so.
If omori released in 2014 or something it would be a loved game but nowadays the quirky rpg genre lost its magic imo

Most of these are very different tbh. I hate undertale and I am not particularly interested in stuff like Eastward or Jimmy, but OFF and Yume Nikki are some of my favorite games and depart enough from Earthbound to be their own thing. Space Funeral is basically a shitpost game whose trash humor would probably turn away most undertale fanbase. Hylics would probably not even be compared to these if it wasn't made in rpgmaker, because the Earthbound influence is barely there.

Idk about omori though, but it seems more on the derivative side.

I certainly can't speak for criticism of it by the Hispanic community, not being a member of it myself or familiar with why such criticism might occur, but I really enjoyed Omori! While it's definitely of the Earthbound-inspired indie RPG mold to an extent, I think it's really great for what it is. The battle system was fun, the spritework was really lovely, and the story and characters really hit for me emotionally. So I'd give it a rec just based on my personal enjoyment lol.

ou are a beautiful man.
Also yrah like @fake said just play it yourself. I think it’s a good game because sadly unlike @Gorse , I’m one of those lame-os who enjoy undertale clones unironically, as shameful as that is. That’s why we need to protect Gorse at all costs. We need more undertale/omori haters. It’s a dying endangered specie!

see the thing is that its been in dev since around 2014 or so and definitely has that same vibe of something that wouldve gone triple platinum on 2014 tumblr, i used to the OST on soundcloud back in middle school, then when the game actually dropped i remember going "???? hasnt this been out for a decade??"

a significant number of the people criticizing the game are doing it because of grievances with the creator, cant say what the deal is though since i don't really have an interest.

personally i find games that make 'depression' a major theme are typically saccharine, on a fundamental level i'd rather something be depressing than be about depression.

Looks rather pretentious to me but give it a chance, if you like those kind of games.

Then what are you waiting for? Just download Omori and play it for yourself, you ain't paying the game anyway. You'll just waste a few hours at most
I guess although the game weighs like 1.1 GB and my download speed is slow

Like with Metroidvanias and roguelites I'm sensing some staleness in indie gaming.
