Wii U Is it worth buying a Wii U in 2025?

it would be best to get a wii u. most computers have trouble running an emulator due to the system needing two screens, it uses up a lot of resources on your computer.
wii u's can be modded nowadays and have flash drives and hard drives set up to store tons of games on and play them natively on the system.

I never had a Wii U before but judging from what I saw in YT videos, if you are thinking about getting one yourself, jailbreaking it is probably the best option.
One strong reason why is because it's really the ultimate Nintendo system prior to NDS as you can play native Wii, Wii U, and (through Nintendon't) Nintendo GameCube games, get into Virtual Console Wii and Wii U games or emulate NES, SNES, GB, GBC, GBA and probably NDS (though I haven't seen any emulating footage).

yeah it's worth it. you can mod your console and and use your flash drive to play your Wii U games and even some fan ports such as Ship of Harkanian (aka Ocarina of Time recomp project).
It also has Wii and GameCube backward support. but as bjork mentioned, if you really want it so bad you have to hurry because of the prices.

If you do want to play GameCube games, you'll want a get a GameCube controller adapter so you can use the controller. Some like the one Mayflash makes would work well.

The Wii U emulator Cemu does work, but you'll need to have a 2 monitor setup to use the gamepad view. I hear you can also use an android phone but that requires a lot more setup. Also, if you need motion controls (like for Breath of the Wild), you'll need to have a controller with a gyro in it like the Dualshock 4 or even the Switch Pro controller.

In the end, it might be easier just to get the Wii U. Plus it has HDMI and a newer wifi antenna in it so it'll play nicer with modern TVs and wireless networks compared to the Wii.

NDS games run pretty good on the WiiU.

wii remote works on wii u? playing wii games requires a wii remote or just the gamepad is enough?

Some things for multiplayer could require it like Nintendo Land, but you can connect any bluetooth controller and use that if the game supports the Wii U pro controller.

The Wii side of the console still requires Wiimotes, it's worth mentioning that Gamecube ones can be used through 2 specific adapters (The official one [very EXPENSIVE btw] and the mayflash one), other 3rd party ones can't be detected for use in Nintendon't.

Trying to think what is left as Wii U exclusives now. Nintendo Land, Splatoon, Mario Maker, and Star Fox Zero? I will say my favorite version of Hyrule Warriors was on the Wii U since I'm not a fan of switching between characters in battle. But unless you get the homebrew channel don't think you can get the updates and dlc for it that greatly added to it. If I were to get a Wii U again I would be jailbreaking it and getting the homebrew and pretendo features

I'd say so if it means something worthwhile for you. I used to have one that was stolen from my apartment around 8 years ago. I miss those gorgeous HD Zeldas that Nintendo REFUSES to re-release in a damn collection. I also miss being able to see the alternate costumes during the cutscenes in Hyrule Warriors. Its the most minor of things but noticed it immediately in the Switch edition. I'd totally get one again if I could.
