Hi everyone,

I’m a huge fan of the Kenka Banchou series, but unfortunately, Kenka Banchou 4 and Kenka Banchou 5 are not available in English. I was wondering if it’s possible to hire someone or pay a team to translate these games for fans who don’t understand Japanese. Does anyone know if this has been done before, and if so, how long would it take to translate these games?

Thanks for any in
fo!

What about 2 and 3? And the PS2 games for that matter? I know this doesn't answer your question but I'm playing through Badass Rumble on the PSP right now and I don't think that 2 or 3 are available in English either. Nor are the PS2 games.
But as for your question, I mean it probably is possible? It's just that translating games usually requires a team of translators and modders, people who know how to go through all the game files and mod them without breaking everything. For translators I'm sure you can find some that would take the job, but without modders who can find every bit of text in the game and give it to the translators I don't know what the chances are. I don't know how you'd find those modders willing to do it.

You could. But don't think it will cost $20 or something low like that for them to take on something that will take a long time, also, there's a chance they might quit and take your money as well.

What Bonkers said, I don't think anyone would take this job for anywhere less than a couple thousand dollars, if not more. Considering you want two games I wouldn't be surprised if it breaks the 5 digits mark.
Also, I forgot to say "how long" is a very relative question. Usually translations like this take years, it could be anywhere from 5 to maybe even 10 years. It depends on the team and scale of the game. Kurohyou took I believe 13 years to translate, and it's still not fully translated. I'm using Kurohyou as an example because it's got similar gameplay to Kenka Bancho.

Not really interested in translating 2 and 3 at the moment but the PS2 games will get their translation (sorry for bad English )

Money isn't a real problem

What if I pay multiple teams to work on it ?

Wait, someone's working on the PS2 game? I had no idea. Also your English is great don't worry about it!
Since money isn't a problem, you COULD pay multiple teams, but you'd need to make one team out of them that work together. You need everyone to work in unison for stuff like this. I think a better place to ask for this might be GBATemp, to my knowledge the place is full of modders and romhackers. Maybe join communities specifically for Kenka Bancho, you never know. It's kind of rare to find someone willing to do something like this though. Good luck to you friend.
I'd also love to see other games in this series translated. Loved the on I played on PSP. I think it was Kenka Banchou 3 - localized as Badass Rumble
Wait, Badass Rumble is the third in the series? I thought it was kind of its own thing detached from the PS2 games. You live and you learn I guess.

Yeah paying for a translation does not sound like a good investment. Be wary what you’re getting into, OP.

i think its more feasable for now to use an machine translation overlay, say with ztranslate or something.
That’s also an option, yes. Definitely not the worst you could go with. I played a few MTL games and they were quite fine I feel.

How would one go about this? Do you need to have your phone at your screen constantly or is it a program you use that overlays your screen? I want to play the other Kenka Bancho games but it just seems impossible right now.

To be fair, the story in those games is that you punch a lot of dudes.

I still need to know the items and new moves and such.
That’s a fair point, I wish some patches at least gave that. Warriors Orochi 3’s psp patch does literally only this. It’s quite a blessing for replaybility.

there's guides for how to use it online, it works as an overlay while playing if you link it up with retroarch for example. it's not something i can explain in detail here.

this video explains how to play Shin megami tensei games and most japanese games like that.

I don't remember finishing the game, but I got quite far and the gameplay loop was fun enough to keep me engaged. Basically you're a school delinquent much like Urameshi Yusuke and Kuwabara Kazuma climbing the ranks and fighting rival gangs and conquering schools. There's a ton of mechanics to learn but not too overwhelming and some also stood out to me like hurling insults before starting a fight. I think of it as kinda like RGG/Yakuza set in highschool. Really fun game!

Yeah I'm playing Badass Rumble right now as well, it's a lot of fun. Just had no idea that it was the third, though it was a spinoff or something for the PSP.
If you just want that I think there's a patch for kenka banchou full throttle that has translated the menu, items, moves(not sure ) and I think some phrases
We need it on the repo then, we don't have it I don't think. I'll do some research later. I'll also try the machine translation method on the first game. I really want to play that one.

Thinking of going back and emulating it on pc too, back when I first tried, it still has a lot of graphic bugs and glitches. I bet it's ok now.

Kenka Banchou is way too underrated . ::fire
This series was for me was much more enjoyable than the Yakuza -series . Played the PSP one like a mad-man .
Im suprised that most games from this series are still not translated to this day . ::thinking
Is it really that obscure ? I know it had its small but dedicated fanbase .

Underrated Indeed! Correct me if I'm wrong but out of the 11 games in the series only Kenka Bacho 3 got localized and only Kenka Bancho 2 never got a handheld port.

Badass Rumble or the first one on PS2? I'm playing on my PSP so I wouldn't know either way

Absolutely is obscure in my opinion, it's not something you can mention out in public and someone will know what it is. Compared to other games like it, like for example Yakuza and Shenmue, it really is a diamond in the rough.

Used to emulate Badass Rumble back in the day. It was rough but playable. Still got my save here on my pc, date says I last played 2017/05/26 been quite a while.
