i looove it when media, especially animated media isn't afraid of being experimental and weird... especially when they combine different mediums together (for example, 2d animation and stop motion).
one of my favorite examples of artsy mixed-media animation is the madoka magica witch sequences, animated by gekidan inu curry. they're all so beautifully intricate and detailed, i can tell a labor of love went into them... inu curry's work is a huge inspiration for me and i love how unique it is so much.

I hope to see more of these kind of innovative mediums of animations in the mainstream media. I don’t know if it’s me thinking Hollywood’s getting stale this past years

Don't know if this counts, but here may be a couple ones.
Wow you just posted an entire treasure trove. The paint on glass animation is one of the coolest things I've seen. Incredible work

Good call on Inu Curry; love Madoka Magica (I mean, my avatar gives that away) and a huge reason is the really surreal and beautiful artstyle of the witch labyrinths.

There is also stop-motion stuff japan and other places. Puppet Show styles. Those old stick figure fight things, if they count.

This combination of stop motion and 2D animation is yet another reason for which Gravity Falls rocks:

they made an Over the Garden Wall stop motion/hand-pulled short last year that was pretty sweet.
