Well, all I can say is I moved on and all ends in a good terms.

I changed (designed and rigged myself) model for 3 times for the span of 5 years of streaming.
deletes my old twitch account which has >300 follows.
managed to get monthly living from subs and now works as a freelance video editor.

any good recommendations when it comes to rigging and 3d modeling/animation in general?

As a starter, you can download Vroid studio. It's a program on Steam for new people to design their own 3D model. There are presets to choose from, and it's very easy to use. The model in Vroid studio is also made to automatically rig itself so that you don't have to think about rigging it (aside from making hair physics).

For advanced method, you can also convert your 3D model to another program called Blender. It's essentially for adding more accessories for your model, but again, it requires more learning, because blender is very... "menacing".

in case if you need a tracking program, you need to download a mirror program. I would suggest trying VMagicMirror. It's very easy to use and really light on your computer to run a tracking modelling.

If you have time (or money), you can try and learn Live2D. Designing a model for Live2D requires an artist for you to create one. Commisioning one will need a bit of work, because the layers and layers of every part of the model need to be separated in order to rig the model. Rigging it requires Live2D. learning the basic won't be enough. you need to know the base knowledge for 3D in general.

Totally get what you're saying! Vtuber content (sometimes) are unsettling because well... one of the factors is there are cultures differences that to some people find quite bizzare. It's like discovering a whole new world of entertainment. I was weirded out at first, but I was blessed with the people around me to learn stuff that I didn't know that I find it quite the norm nowadays.

I tend to know my limits though. Believe me, you do not want to go deeper.

but yea Vtubers It's just like any other online community, really. People come together because they're into the same stuff.

Good question!

This is what the community called babiniku. quote on wiki says:

"Babiniku (Japanese: バ美肉) is a Japanese term for an online avatar depicting an anime-style female character used by content creators who are often (but not always) male."

So the way that I can explain reasons why tons of dude use female avatars are:
1. There are men out there that cannot "be out" and instead goes to be a babiniku.
2. Growing their community as a kawaii moe moe vtuber girl is more engaging.
3. It's a culture in Japan are people are interested by it.

It's in general and not just in Vtubing community. any chatting platform you would encounter them too.
If you're really interested, there is a video about it. kinda scuffed, but it should explained your question.
