It's been a while since I've asked another question, I mainly use this site for emulation reasons, but I wanna get to know the community more. So I want to ask, if you were asked/hired to bring back a beloved series, or remake a certain video game, you can do one or both. How and what would you do? It can be any company on any system, you have free reign to do what you want. For me I would like to bring back TimeSplitters in an official form like a fourth game, but Free Radical isn't here anymore, so dunno what developer could do it justice. For a game I want remade, probably Resident Evil Code Veronica, the original game is not very fun and unfair in places, that it needs a remake to tweak the difficulty and make it more approachable.

Ace Combat

I would remake Ace Combat 5's plot so much (well, maybe not so much but it's still a big change) plus small tweaks in other previous games and the later Ace Combat ZERO so that all of the games by then (aside from 3 as that was set in the far-off future) would be tied into a single "Demon" legend

Dark Cloud- bring back the Geroma Random generate dungeon, upgrade weapons

Radiata Stories- complete all the cut content

Lufia series- just remaster it

Jak and Daxter- I want to revive this series it had many lore

- Valkyrie Profile.
It did have a recent release with Valkyrie Elysium but it has nothing to do with the Profile series. I think they don't even share the same staff.

VP is a classic and both the original and Silmeria have a dire need to be either remastered or remade. Also, I would push for a 3rd game to complete the trilogy even though I don't know exactly how the story would go after the end of Silmeria. A port of Covenant of the Plume would also be nice.

- Mega Man.
Would finally release the 3rd Legends game and 4th Star Force game. We have documentation showing both were at least considered but were discarted due thier predecessors not meeting sales expectations.

- Darkstalkers
Do I need to explain why? Awesome franchise with iconic cast. We NEED a new games and free the cast from cameo hell.
I'm also in dire need of more Morrigan and Hsien-Ko

- Rival Schools
Same case as Darkstalkers. CAPCOM in the 90's were GOATed for their games and character designs. Luckly, the Street Fighters devs seems to like Rival Schools and may be merging Rival Schools and SF together (just like Final Fight). I would either make a new game or merge it with SF.

Ace Combat

I would remake Ace Combat 5's plot so much (well, maybe not so much but it's still a big change) plus small tweaks in other previous games and the later Ace Combat ZERO so that all of the games by then (aside from 3 as that was set in the far-off future) would be tied into a single "Demon" legend
I would totaly push for a full Electrosphere remake

Jazz Jackrabbit

I would do a reboot. Essentially turn all the chapters from the original game into "levels". To advance to the next planet, like you would with the original, you gotta collect stuff & do puzzles (imagine Hexen mixed with Banjo Kazooie, though not as extreme). Also, yes, it will obviously be a third person shooter-kinda-sorta.

If I could remake something it would probably be the SNES version of Shadowrun and re-purpose the world building, graphical art, 3d art design and general game design to feel more like 'Grand theft auto' but in a more enclosed map of Seattle 2050. I wasn't thrilled with the treatment for Shadowrun returns. Given the state of the world and where things are headed, I feel like Shadowrun as an IP is due for a comeback. Fantasy rpg and cyberpunk is a genre that deserves a lot more love and I think cyberpunk 2077 gave a lot more people reason to take the genre seriously. Given how powerful corporations are becoming perhaps it's time to give this series a proper look on a more massive scale?

A sequel to Super Metroid that ignores Fusion, Other M, and Dread goes back to the classic Super Metroid gameplay, no side characters or lame cutscenes, but with a world expanded up to the size of something like Hollow Knight.

Epic Mickey:

  1. Make the Phantom Blot less his fault, Oswald already hates him for overshadowing
  2. Ironically make the game less Disney Ip focused (Remove Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and all that), and try to make the Cartoon Wasteland a more general "Abandoned cartoon Limbo"
  3. A happy Compromise between a cheerful game and the infamous S.T.A.L.K.E.R esque concept art
  4. Playable Ortensia and/or Fanny, i loved the former in 2 so i was bummed she was stuck as stone in 1 and the latter got scrapped in favor of Ortensia
  5. Instead of a clumsy linear game, make it a proper Colect-a-Thon, or to make it easy to port, swap the Ink/Thinner mechanics into a sort of platform making or destroying mechanic
  6. Instead of a platformer, how about an RPG? A Paper Mario or Chrono Trigger styled one
  7. Make full use of the Cartoon physics for abilities be overworld or combat ones
  8. Some cards that explain where the characters originally came, akin to the cards on batman Arkham Origins

I'd bring back Parasite Eve as an intense, survival horror action game. Dive deeper into biology, science topics and more psychological. I wouldn't exactly remake the original; more like a reimagining of the book's concept to allow more freedom for pursuing different themes. A private investigator, a detective who's exposed to this phenomenon and slowly unravels the conspiracy.

Mechanically, I'd aim at something akin to an over the shoulder camera, with scarce resources (ammunition, curatives) and the Parasite Energy. Parasite Energy would have more risks if you exploit it, kinetic abilities (like Mass Effects) hinder your stamina and abilities like igniting foes would damage your stress level if abused.

The stress level, for now, conceptually would be in a more thematic addition, as using these parasite powers means it takes over you, it causes pain, headaches, nausea, etc; you are not Aya, you are not some superhero with 80 handgun ammo. Having an assortment of curatives that helps with these status effects. Letting them linger can change not just the moment to moment gameplay but how the story unfolds.

The RPG elements would be moved outside of combat, Parasite Energy would have it's evolution, but only if you use the abilities more often not because of an experience bar. Using certain skills could potentially unlock other paths, akin to a DNA schematic.

Dialogue choice and branching paths are a key part of the experience, as using certain PE skills and your detective work open certain scenarios and dialogue;

Enemies would be ferocious, disgusting and would force the player to make hard decisions. Taking a note from the original, and how certain animals evolve; I'd like to imagine how the APEX predator version of that animal would behave. What sort of skills would be most suited; like fighting a mutated giant rat would be a waste to use ammo as they're quite fast but a kinetic ability, like throwing could deal with it easily at the risk of stress.

It would be somewhat linear, scenario to scenario but you can revisit certain areas if you missed anything. A police station as the main hub with options to upgrade guns.

and it has to be a brutal, as disgusting and gory as the M rating can allow it to.

and the main character would look like Penelope Cruz in the 90s but a lil more pale, black hair but that's just my prostate thinking for me.

in todays climate I would just let it be dead. Companies have a habit bringing back games and just make them SHIT and I don´t even I could do it. Well maybe I could if I forced the developers under me to play the orginal game till their eyes bled and said make a new game to this game and make it equally good and don´t make or add new pointless shit.

Don´t fix what´s not broken just make a new story.

Blasto!

A game with a fun setting and concept but very difficult because of the controls.
With the narrow walkways and how enemies just spawn in out of no where and the game having platforming, I would base the new gameplay controls on Uncharted and turn Blasto! into a cover based shooter while trying to adapt the platforming and puzzles.

Aesthetic wise, lean fully into an comic book art style and push the game all the way to a Mature or Adult Only rating going full in on the innuendo one liners, sexy Space Babes, and and exploding alien heads.

skate.
the new remake is garbage, i'd essentially fuse skate 2 and 3, setting the game in a brand new city, with easter eggs from some beloved characters like coach frank and big muthafukin black, but otherwise with a brand new cast of characters who'd be memorable.

as for gameplay - i'd improve on the mechanics of skate 2, while having an option to allow for skate 3 movement and glitches

i'd make multiplayer a core part of this "remake", but implement it in a p2p way with a master server, so that way anyone could bring back the servers after the game's inevitable demise. i think a concept like forza's always online thingy would be very nice, just you skating around and seeing other skaters do their own thing. HOWEVER! no internet? you can still play the game to its fullest, you just won't see any skaters and they'd probably be replaced by AI skaters.
also like forza, you can walk up to someone and challenge them on the instant, on top of having the ability to search for games

soundtrack wise - i want to have an equal divide between rock and hip hop music, say i wanna listen to wu tang clan when i cruise around, but also be able to put on black flag when i play an acitivity.

and of course, no microtransactions - you gotta earn your clothes and your board

Golden Sun
Remake the entire trilogy in two parts, GS1 and GS2 mixed as one so you jump from the end of GS1 to the start of GS2, not much to change there aside from making the game look more like the ilustrations and add inputs to feel more engaged, with a "classic mode" where you dont have them, working as some sort of hard mode, I would make sure the text goes as fast as the player needs to respect the battle pacing of the original. A thing important to change is the presence of 8 playable characters, I honestly didn't know Isaac's team was alongside Felix's team until I lost a party member, and even then they were useless because they were like 11 levels lower with worse gear, only using them as backpacks, they should have a better reason to engage in any battle, i got nothing in mind right now but would force a way to make them useful.

Then for GS3 is where most changes would be needed, first fix the story because it is aimless most of the time, make the other 3 of the other 4 playable characters (Amiti, Himi, and Eoleo) not playable until the end of the first part, until then the team will always have only 4 playable characters meaning someone (Karis) has to leave when Sveta is fully added into the team. On top of that, the game wont end at the same spot as the original GS3, now we will re-encounter the synergy black holes and explore the reason why they exist and develop the story to give it a proper ending, if anything I would make them an optional thing to encounter at the start since they have nothing to do with the plot of GS3, instead this would be some sort of GS4 where we need all characters and develop them even further, giving them their own quests to be acquired and start the plot with the psynergy black holes. Honestly reworking GS3 and give create GS4 needs a lot of work that I dont have fully in mind right now.

F-Zero. I know Miyamoto spoke about the series in 2012 saying something along the lines of not knowing what to add to the formula for a new installment, and he believed fans grew weary of the series. Its been 22, soon to be 23 years since the last 3d installment in the franchise, F-Zero GX. I genuinely think that if they released a game like GX with the updated hardware, and did literally NOTHING ELSE new, it would still work. Its been 2 decades at this point i think enough time has past to get away with that.

Honestly there isn't much you can do to the franchise besides maybe expanding the customization options and adding a battle mechanic to the races. Imagine GX with galactic missiles and plasma canons, being able to win your races by either out maneuvering your opponents with knowledge of the track, expert drifting and proper usage of speed boosts, or destroying the competition entirely by simply blowing them the fuck up.

Your energy meter would be slightly longer than the previous game but that's now to compensate for you being able to use energy weapons, which should be powerful, but deplete your energy greatly when used. You also recover slower when going through energy recovery pads on the stage. You could even make this more complex with the ability to either have a vehicle with futuristic weapons like i've described or analog weapons that do slightly less damage but also dont deplete your energy as much. There would also be a finite amount of them so every miss really counts against you.

Thats just me brainstorming without thinking of the little details of design but i would like nintendo to just do SOMETHING with the franchise again, people enjoyed F-zero 99, theres still genuine intrest in the franchise.
Jak and Daxter- I want to revive this series it had many lore
If you were to revive Jak & Daxter would you have it play more like the first game or the sequels?
Mega Man.
Would finally release the 3rd Legends game and 4th Star Force game. We have documentation showing both were at least considered but were discarted due thier predecessors not meeting sales expectations.
I was just having a discussion with a friend about this. Capcom could literally announce a "Legends Remastered Collection" with 1,2 AND Tron Bonne, fix some of the quality of life issues and then announce Legends 3 as an open world action rpg with tons of customization, collectables and whatever the hell else i could think of with more time on my hands. Think of something like Sand land but with a heavier emphasis on story and in the megaman legends universe.

I know they are making a Fate Extra remake but if I had to do it I would include all the cut choices, like saving differents characters and I would also include a secret Berserker route as an easter egg to certain sequel. Another one it would be a KOTOR 2 definitive edition for consoles adding all the cut content aspyr couldn't add with their patch that never existed.

Wario Land
Interrupt the Wario Ware series because it's running out of steam, and have Wario go back to treasure hunting again. Whether be the Super Mario Bros. formula, the Wario Land 2-Shake it formula by getting the main treasure at the end and complete the stage to progress the story. But add Waluigi and Mona this time for a 2-4 player co-op platforming adventure with a few puzzle solving elements.

A Metroidvania formula with a Wario & Shantae crossover which the plot involes Wario and Captain Syrup get magically transported to Sequin Land. Wario thinks he can find treasure there, but meets Shantae and thinks she can grant Wario three wishes, even though Shantae is a 1/2 Genie, hijinx insue. Meanwhile Captain Syrup teams up with Risky Boots to destroy Scuttle Town and finding a special treasure that will make both Syrup and Risky the richest pirates of Sequin Land.

1. Popful Mail
A Reboot or Remake would do wonders for this game. The only time this game came over here, it was on the Sega CD and given to Working Designs. Even if it was a one and done, just make the game accessible in some form or give it a sequel (However unlikely it is in the grand scheme of things)

2. Kya: Dark Lineage
It would probably fall into remake territory because of some design decisions to fixing backtracking and progression system. Along with adding more mini-maps and camera fixes. Also give it a sequel because it ends on a cliffhanger.

3. Darken Skye
Give it a remaster, the controls are awful but story is pretty great. (Even the Gamecube version is terrible.)

4. Haven: Call of the King
Just Remake the Entire Thing. Cut all of the Turret Sections, Fix or Reduce the Cart and Boat Segment, and focus on a consistent gameplay system. Also for the love of all things holy fix the voice acting. Maybe give it a sequel to continue from the cliffhanger.

1. Ape Escape
Give it the Trilogy the Spyro/Crash trilogy treatment while remaking the soundtrack of the 2nd game to be made by Soichi Terada, make Ape Escape 4 alongside with a new Pumped & Primed/Million Monkeys with online. Of course Soichi Terada has to be the one to make the soundtrack.

2. SoulCalibur
Give it time, an actual budget and a director with the passion and a vision to bring it back in full force. A better and more extensive create-a-soul (character creator) with custom weapons, create your own moveset, many more clothing options, uploadable patterns and a highly tweakable voice system.
A more cinematic (and better) story mode and many more game modes (like how Mortal Kombat used to do)
The soul still burns and people are waiting to return to the stage of history.

3. Evil Zone
Would be hard to bring this back since it is a product of the 90s and It would not feel the same if it had modern anime style and not 90s anime style. Bringing this back with some new systems, a bigger better story and the addition of new characters would be nice while keeping to the core of the two button fighter that it was.

4. Threads of Fate/Dewprism
Modern Remake would be neat or a new story with new protags.

5. Legend of Dragoon
FF7 Remake treatment or a sequel of E33 status.

6. Bloody Roar
Honestly would just like remakes of 1 and 2. Combined together somehow or a new Bloody Roar with every character from the past games with the ability to pick which version of the character you want besides the new version of the new game.

7. Rival Schools
Just make a new one.
