A ps2 mini would be gigantic, but probably never be a thing. I think Sony was just hoping on a trend, and Nintendo themselves were probably never even interested in continuing it in the first place. Nintendo at the time was seemingly experimenting in creating a FOMO-driven market, hence why the Mario 3d all Star collection had such a limited release. Thankfully that’s all behind. The ps2 is my favorite console, so I’d love a “mini” especially since they’re so moddable.

Damn, that sure is one hell of a wishlist
8 games and no Jak or Rockstar games other than GTASA, take it or leave it.
Funny, those are the games that’d make the console worth it. Plus ratchet, ape escape, dynasty warriors and persona. Everything else I’d take or leave. ::thinking

I know this might be a pipe dream but I badly need smol form factor PS2 to put in my car.

There are people who made home consoles into their cars, with a tv and everything. I’m almost never in the passenger seat though and when I park my car, I don’t stay in it for long. The idea has potential though. Maybe if I get stuck somewhere. ::thinking

And that's exactly why they wouldn't do it, just like how the PS1 Mini had no games pretty much
Ah, I get it now. Though the truth is, those are likely the first games to be added. Mini had gta and persona, and Sony (for whatever reason) only released Rockstar and SNK games for their now outdated “PS2 on PS4” program they started back in 2016… of all things… I have so much useless Sony knowledge. ::dkfacepalm

It's a work in progress, I already have the screen and PS2 car adapter except the console itself, mainly just for the passenger since I'm the crew's wheelman for the past few years. That and if I'm bored in the office I could hop on the parking lot and play for an hour or two.
I do have a Slim but it is a tight fit for the glove box and I have no idea where else to put it.

That’s already incredibly impressive, it does seem like you’re already set to go, which I find commendable. I’m not sure how things are over there, but ps2 consoles are still easy to find here, refurbished too.

Also, not sure what you’re seeking, but I’d still advise getting a slim ps2. I’m obviously discussing preference here, but I can say from experience that if you own multiple consoles, you are always gonna gravitate towards the easier ones to carry.

I specifically want a PS2 'cause I grew up watching Pimp My Ride and I always dream of playing NFS Underground 2 or San Andreas on a car, straight from the console without emulation if possible. Been thinking if I should get Mini PC instead but it cost almost 5 times than a cheap refurbished PS2 Slim here, not to mention navigating through the OS on a go is not exactly intuitive.

The biggest hurdle is space, that's why a hacked PS2 classic mini is like a dream machine of mine.
Oh and cable management is another problem, the boys have been cooking up some plan tho since last month, we gonna work on it around 3rd week of April. I planned to post the result on the forum in my status later on.
As of now I'm currently working out the kinks for Android on the head unit, I wanna put up a simple voiced assistant, it will be just like Kitt, y'know, from Knight Rider.

There's already a PS2 Classic Mini. Your phone. That's the smallest it can get unless a Raspberry Pi can one day have enough power to play PS2 games.

No company is going to release 30-50 gig of games as a plug and play on the main market.

A ps2 mini would be real cool thing for some younger gamers, but i think that the architecture might be a lil to much for a little emulation machine, even my pc cant handle ps2 emulation and it was just cheaper to legit get a ps2.

It's a nice thought experiment. Doubt it will actually happen since it would require hardware that's beefier than the low-end phone parts that many mini-consoles used. Your best bet is to get a used laptop and install Emulation Station on it.

While I would certainly be interested in a PS2 Mini, the possibility of Sony releasing one anytime soon appears highly unlikely.

The PS2 generation games have been frequently remade or remastered, like the GTA Definitive Edition releases, SMT3 Remaster, and the Persona 3 Remake. I don't see the remake/remaster train stopping anytime soon.

While this doesn't necessarily completely prevent the older versions of titles to be re-released, I think this does make publishers less likely to bring older versions of their games back, so they can continue selling their remasters/remakes at a premium and to artificially limit consumer choice.

If they do one, they'd have to go the extra mile in order to accommodate such variety of games. The only way I can see this succeeding is if they do some sort of FPGA or basically remanufacture the PS2's chips because even to this day we struggle with emulating that console and to that end it would be rather costly.

Basically Sony would have to re-release the PS2 lol
