I was going to start a thread about this under "Arcade Systems", but I feel like that should exclude pinball machines as they work quite differently.

Yes, technically pinball machines aren't arcade machines, but I still believe that they add to the arcade experience, and are a type of game machine.

I reckon it should be placed under "Retro Gaming Talk" naturally, but the sheer list of different tables means that the conversation can expand beyond a single thread.

On that note, I'd also recommend adding yet another topic (or combining it with pinball) to talk about other arcade, non-video-game machines (ie, air hockey, whack a mole variations, claw machines, other various ticket and prize machines), as - maybe just due to my age - I feel that those games are integral to the ambiance and arcade aesthetic.

I know that this is a suggestions topic specifically for CDR, but there are no other topics to suggest new ideas just for the forums

"Arcade Systems" is now "The Arcade" a place to talk about all things you can find in an amusement arcade. New prefixes allow classifying and filtering topics.

Let me know if this is better.

Nice, these look really cool.

I noticed that the description mentions "Cabinets", but doesn't have it as a prefix. I'd definitely add that back in to have a discussion of the varying different types of arcade cabinets. That being said, would "Light Gun" be included as an arcade cabinet, or still it's own separate thing? If that's the case, should there also be a separate prefix for "Arcade Racers" and "Cockpit Games", since the full sit down cabinets are wildly different than 'normal' arcade games?

Also, I got a little bit confused when I saw "Dance Machines" and "Rhythm Games", thinking they were the same, so I would change "Rhythm Games" to "Music/ Rhythm Games" (or something similar to that), as that would also then encompasses stuff like the Guitar Hero arcade games.

Finally, I would add a "strength-test" prefix , but I don't know if there is a more official name for those type of machines.

Otherwise, really happy to see them included now, thanks.

1) Will add more general "Cabinets"
2) I thought Light gun was distinctive enough cabinet to have a prefix. I'll add one for Racers since it's the same situation, a racing game will never use a regular cabinet.
3) I separated Dance from Rhythm cos I wanted to distinguish something like Sound Voltex from DanceRush where the skillset is completely different, but I guess I can group them and use topic titles to specify instead.

This is the final roster for The Arcade so far:
  1. Cabinets
  2. Pinball
  3. Light Gun
  4. Rhythm
  5. Racing
  6. Air hockey
  7. Claw Machines
  8. Whac-A-Mole
  9. Skee-Ball
  10. Pachinko
  11. Strength-Test

I'm happy for dancing and rhythm to be different, you're absolutely right, sitting down and playing to a beat is a way different experience than emulating a dance floor, I was just more making a mindless comment really. I would still include music on the roster (because where do you put something like "Beatmania"?), but that's up to you. It's a good roster regardless.
