I remember his popularity peaked to where Target had some exclusive merch deal in like 2008, but I'm not sure why as he was only known by people that delve into the internet enough to engage in forums.

Now, he's just gone. I don't even know if NHK still utilizes him at all. I saw nothing Domo related when I was in Japan back in 2019, but he was ahead of the trend of everything in Japan having a mascot.
